At my place, I always buy more beer before running out.

At a party or something, I always bring some beer or hard liquor and contribute.

Sometimes I take the last beer, and sometimes it isn't one that I brought.

I voted yes before I saw roommate. Parties and community chests are open season but I wouldn't even drink a roommates beer unless offered and would expect the same from them. This would be a rule.

It always depends on the conditions of the purchase. When I lived with roommates, we always had a communal agreement that beer in the fridge was for everyone unless explicitly designated otherwise. If someone took the last beer, that person went on a beer run. I guess it works if you trust the people you live with, otherwise it fails miserably.

If it's designated as a communal beer stash, then sure. But then I'd go buy the replacement stash. But if it's someone else's and they just say I coudl have one or two, then I'd ask them if they wanted it first since it's the last one.

At a party with lots of people, ya I'll take the last beer. At home with a roommate, no.
