I dont take public transportation, but I would try this. It can carry 3 hipsters at a time and a "bus" driver:

With their new 'living room on wheels', Swiss motor manufacturer Rinspeed envisages a fleet of all electric, cloud-connected cars that can be communally shared. The company believes the MicroMAX vehicle could revolutionize commuter transportation. Jim Drury reports.

All you need now is Googles self driving system and we will finally have Johnny Cabs!

sounds like a taxi. The whole point of public transportation is making it more efficient. All our metro rail in LA is electric and even considering transportation and transformation of the electricity I'm sure it's leagues more efficient than a bunch of small electric vehicles and definitely any combustion engine.

In Chicago I used the L 80% of the time, the bus 10% of the time, and cabs 10% of the time. Didn't have a car. Although I could walk so many places to.

No, I would if it wasn't so terrible though here. Bus system is a joke down here and that is all there is. There was a news piece like a year or two ago where they timed how long it took to get to a place in a car and on the bus. The car took 15 minutes, the bus took nearly 2 and a half hours......

I refuse to share the same space on wheels with poor people. I live in LA man! Everybody here drive MB and/or BMWs. And since they added toll lanes into the carpool lanes, I don't have to carry people in my car anymore to get to places I want to go.

I live in the burbs and not even near a big city so no. I'll occasionally take the train to the airport but it's somewhat of a PITA so I haven't done it in years.

Yep. I take the regional rail to and from work every day (~1.5 hours each way, including walking/driving).

Only when im drinking or going to downtown. I live across the street from light rail transit that can get me downtown in 40 min, would take me at least a hour to drive that with any traffic not to mention parking would be a issue/expensive.

I mostly take the subway or walk, and sometimes take a cab. We got rid of our car and I couldn't be happier about it.

No.

Simply will not work with my job. And even if it did, I'd much rather have a 15-20 minute commute instead of a 1 hour commute due to all the excess stops, and it still wouldn't be cost effective vs just driving myself as I'd still have a car anyway. Besides, who wants to share a crowded bus with all those crazy people you see on youtube anyway :p

All the time when I was in school/college. Now that I have a car I drive everywhere, but if I'm going out of town, particularly the south where they have the big multi lane divided highways and tons of standstill traffic, I rather save myself the aggravation and I take the Ontario Northland. I've only done a trip like this twice to visit one of my friends in the Toronto area though. The second time I used the train, much better... but they got rid of the train now, sucks. Much much much cheaper to take the bus/train than driving too since I'm not burning all that gas. Like 100 bucks or so for a ticket.
