I would normally try not to.
Not because I don't trust anyone ... OK, fine, I don't trust anyone :)

Taking medical advice serisously from this forum is like taking diet tips from Rosie O'Donnel seriously.

I just find it interesting how ppl always start threads about what to do with said condition, and on occassion there's pics too.
And they're not titled "hey check this out", it's always "tell me what to do"
it's just to +1 the post count.

Where is the:

"No way, no how...not in a million years would I either solicit or accept any medical advice offered on these forums" option?

Good place to get some immediate info from some people that might have shared a similar experience. Of course one should always go see a Dr....

From another thread:

People that ask for medical advice on ATOT deserve to be fscked with. It's the new natural selection: if you're dumb enough to come to these guys for health information, you should probably be weeded out of the gene pool.

Depends on who is giving the advice too, someone like 911Paramedic or some of the other medically inclinded people I would take more seriously than some random person.

well, we do have some people w/ medical knowledge..

also not to mention users here that can obtain knowledge really quickly through the power of the internet...and users that can search google for u (u can probably get up to 10+ people looking through google using different search queries).

It's instant info...hehehe

No, I don't take the advice seriously. However, I do find that the responses bring up interesting points that hadn't occurred to me before.

I find other people's experiences to be useful.

Being a Licensed Paramedic now for 7 years, some of the advice I've seen on here isn't bad at all. But, some I've seen from seemingly serious posts are way off. Some people should just not be giving advice, especially when they have no idea, just think they do.

If it is something serious, of course not.

If it is something like the recent ingrown toenail thread, it can be helpful to hear from other people who had a treatment or procedure and find out what their experiences were like.

Basically, it's just like asking people around the office if they've ever had _______ and what did they do about it.

Yes. Everyone here is a Medical doctor with 50 year experience in a major hospital...oh wait

Medical questions? Those are fine.

Medical advice for a serious illness/injury while it's happening?
