Do you suspect steroids?

My friend tells me 18 year old son has suddenly gotten an outbreak of acne on his face and back.

He started lifting weights recently and my friend tells me he's pretty pumped.

I suggest to her that he may be taking steroids.

She says no and suspects the acne is from a sulfur compond in his protein drink.

I think 'roids.

Are there any other possible explanations?

Tell her to ask him to submit to a piss test. If he refuses and tries to kick her arse then I think we can safely say he's juicing.

I just did a little reading and apparently creatine can trigger an outbreak of acne.

I know he's taking it so it seems like a possibility. I'd still be suspicious of steroids.

I didn't buy the sulfur argument either.

Also how long did it take for him to get "pumped" that should be a pretty good indicator...

Take a test, how long to get "pumped"?

Acne - Teenage Years - even on back....

I'd get a test done just to be sure.

Teen acne yes, but suddenly out of the blue and on the back?

I haven't seen the kid so I don't know how big he is. I heard the comment about him being pumped in July after he'd been working out for maybe 3 - 5 months, I believe.

The acne outbreak just happened. Apparently, it's pretty bad.

If he's taking creatine i doubt he's taking roids as well. Does he have a nice income? Roids can be expensive.

You haven't even seen the kid? I would just shut up.

Nope, haven't seen him.

I suppose you're right, it's none of my business.

There is no proof that any kind of food causes acne. That myth includes chocolate and greasy foods, the staples of the American teen.

On the otherhand there is proof that acne is caused by stress, and (what a coincidence) teens have that aplenty.

Damn it, I definitely have sci-fi on the brain. The other day some guy had a thread about drilling through cinderblock, and I thought it said airlock, then I saw this thread as was thinking, "Suspect androids of what?"

I dunno - I've been lifting a lot and once in a while I get acne on my face and my back. I've never touched roids in my whole life! A good indication of whether he does roids or not would be the amount of weight gained/per period of time. If he gained 20 lbs in less than a month that would be a good indication that he's doing roids.

I'd avoid getting involved, but ask your friend about all the places he can get money from and to check his wallet from time to time. But as I said, avoid getting involved.

If he's got a lot of money, there are plenty of steriods that show very, very little signs of use. Theres alot more out there than just Dbolz and Deca. So I don't think the acne is a dead give away, but an astronomical increase in weight (both his weight and how much he's been putting up) is a sign to check for.

He should not be going through his 18 year old son's wallet.
