For example, I was following the NHL playoffs while the Sabres were playing. Then they got knocked out, and I don't give a shit anymore about the playoffs.

Anyone else do that? Or do you all just see it through?

It depends on the sport.

If it's football, I'll watch virtually any game on tv, whether or not my team is playing.

Basketball, if my team is knocked out I'll continue watching as long as I have some interest in any of the remaining teams (i.e. if a college team from the SEC is playing, for example).

Any other sport, not so much. If my team is out, so is my interest.

Just depends on the teams still in it. Like in the NBA, the LA vs. Boston rivals have been awesome the last couple years. I didn't care much at all about Orlando vs. LA last year. But some of them are half as fun to watch and follow blogs/threads and talk smack to homers when their teams are getting thumped. RE: Patriots losing to NY Giants a couple years ago. That was awesome to watch online. But even better following the comments here.

Depends. If the rival team(s) are still playing, I enjoy watching them lose almost as much as my team winning.

Lulz, I live in Toronto, if I stop watching when our team is out, I will never see any post season

nba is barely watchable even when my team is in it

actually, it's more watchable when i don't have an interest because then i can ignore all the shitty refs.

Depends on the sport/league

NFL I'll continue to watch.
NHL, I might continue to watch.
NBA, I won't continue to watch.
MLB, I don't even watch regular season anymore.

NFL is the only one I continue to watch.
If the Red Wings get knocked out tonight (probable) then I'm done with the NHL playoffs.

Really depends on the sport.

NHL, once the Sharks are gone, no.
NFL, yes, since the Niners don't even make the playoffs.
NBA, yes, especially since I don't have a "team."
MLB, eh maybe a passing glance, but otherwise, no. (Go Giants.)

College Basketball, yes.
College Football, only the national title game.

The only sport I care about is real football, American football.

The only two teams I care about would be The Saints (NFL) and my undergrad university (Conference USA). Those would be the only teams that I care to watch.

If my undergrad university is eliminated, I hope for a CUSA victory, mainly keeping track of scores, but that victory rarely comes.

Football and Hockey I'll continue to follow. Baseball I stop watching, and I can't be bothered with the NBA at all.

I'll continue to watch football. Baseball and basketball are pretty much dead to me when my team is out.

Side note, why is championship and team in quotes?

why watch if your team is gone... ;/

Because us Mariner fans would never see the playoffs otherwise. Call it curiosity if you will. Sometimes I will temporarily 'adopt' a team going into the playoffs to root for and make it a little more interesting. Of course they are usually the underdog.

I watch until the final game. though about the only sport i watch is Football and college wrestling (if its on).

oh and MMA

yes... and no!

i watch hockey till the cup is awarded... regardless if the pens are eliminated.
i watch the nfl playoffs till the superbowl is over... regardless if the steelers are eliminated.

the pirates are eliminated on the 1st day of training camp... and I stop watching.
