Exactly ... I'm looking forward to the day whan I can skip tossing away $8 on most new system builds though.

You can't really use anything else for a source of boot sector files when you're trying to make a flash boot drive, can you?

I used one yesterday.

All I use mine for is when I have to download and install a driver on a client's system that (gasp) doesn't have an optical drive (i.e. making the disk); I haven't read off of one in many, many years.

I still do but I am in the process of putting my floppy stuff on CDs.

Ever since I upgraded my computers to XP, my computers don't like floppies.

I still have my floppy disk drive. Use it occassionaily. You can diss them off as much as you want, but they are a real life saver in certain situations.

I will always build a pc with a floppy disk drive in case of emergenices.

I keep one around, but of course I don't normally use it. The only time it gets used is F6 to install RAID drivers (although unless your RAID is boot one you can install drivers later), for flashing firmwares on HDDs/ODs/Mobos. Many ODs and mobo's can be flashed from windows, but many still require floppy disk.

Quick, easy way of transferring small files to non-networked PCs that lack front USB ports.

I built my computer 18 months ago without a floppy. I thought I needed it one time. Turns out I was wrong...
