Do you still have to un-install old gpu drivers before installing new drivers?

I read the Nvidia installation guide and it just mentions un-installing ntune before installing the new drivers. You are then to re-install ntune after the new drivers are installed. I know in the past the protocol was to un-install the old drivers first. Any ideas on this? Thanks.

I think its generally accepted as a 'best practice' but isn't required really. I've installed nVidia/AMD drivers over the top of other ones and it really hasn't cause any specific problems. In the old days, I think old files wouldn't get overwritten sometimes so you'd have some conflicts/slower performance/more bugs.

I do it anyway just cause.

Nvidia is better for that than ATI. ATI almost insists you first remove old drivers - then reboot - then install the new ones.
