Do you still have any of your old school video cards that you paid top dollar for when they were new?

I wish id have just ket my first retail 8500 ..I paid like $300 for it and sold it for $80....come to think of it I wish id kept my TNT2 Ultra as well which I paid $200 for ..sold it for $40.

I did sell my Radeon 9800 for like $250 and at the time it made sence but selling these

From now on I am keeping my retail high dollar cards that I cannot sell for a decent chunk of change until they croak.

I don't even remember my first card. I think it was Voodoo But it definately wasn't a 3D card. I think it's still in my Dad's rig I left at home when I moved out.

I still use my VisionTek GeForce 3 64MB I paid $300 Bucks for. It's still plays CS Pretty good.

The only video card that I've paid top dollar for is the 6800GT I have right now ($337 this July). Previously I always bought a generation old, because I just didn't have the money for the newest stuff ($150 TNT2 Ultra, $85 Radeon 8500, $200 Radeon 9700 Pro).

Edit: Although the 9700 Pro can almost be considered "top dollar" just because $200 is still a lot of money (to me anyway), and more importantly, the 9800 Pro/XT of the day wasn't that much faster than it.

I make a habit of collecting old hardware, so I've quite a few ancient graphics cards.

A few noteables....
Matrox Ultima, first PCI graphics card ever released.... roughly $400 US in 93'.
Matrox PG-640, circa 1985.... haven't the faintest clue what it cost new, probably $6-800US. 16KB of RAM, capable of an amazing 16 colours! (Hey, it was pretty impressive at the time)
Functional Voodoo 5 6000, Revision 3700A.
Prototype Quantum3D Voodoo1 dirivative with 2TMU's.

Not much more then the usual consumer boards other then the above.
What I wouldn't give to find an AAlchemy TX 8464 though... 16 VSA-100's, at $15,000 used their not exactly obtainable though.

Voodoo3 32 MB. It was a top-of-the-line card when it was bought (it was a prebuilt though, so I don't know the exact price). I still have it in the static wrap of my newER card.

You know how to shop... $337 for 6800GT is a great price for that card now. In July, that was a steal.

I still have the first ever graphics card I bought - a Radeon 8500 64MB (I was going to get in on the dell deal for $200 but they delayed delivery several months and until I got it I had to use my dad's pc so he pitched in the difference so I could get the card ASAP instead of waiting). I was never really into hardware =-)
I've upgraded my PC a few times since then, but I've kept the Radeon 8500. My dad has since gotten an 8500 AIW so he officially has a better card than mine =-/
I've been thinking about upgrading the card(and everything else), but I've found I'm not too fond of recent games, and my card runs the very few I have that are worth playing rather well (after turning down options of course).

Paid 330? for Voodoo 2 12mb, changed it+Ati Rage pro for a Voodoo 3 2000, which I sold for 40?, which I used to buy ATI rage 128, wich then changed for Rage 128Pro for another 30? and then for 128Pro VIVO for 20? more.

Bought a new righ with Radeon 7000, sold it for 40? that I used to buy a Gf4 MX 420 for 60? and that I sold for the same. With that money I bought a 523? Hercules 9700Pro.

Sold 9700pro for 160? 6 months ago. Had already bought a 9800pro for 280? (almost a year ago LOL) and I've sold it a month ago for 180? with a Giant III and a 120mm fan.

With that money I bought my actual 470? Asus V9999GT 256Mb (6800GT).

no. your 8500 is much faster than his. till the 9700 AIW series, the AIW were traditionally slower than its non-AIW cousins.

Diamond Monster 3D (Voodoo1 4mb) $299.99@ Best Buy.. the card was put into a friends PC years ago and I have no idea where it went.. but I think I still have the reciept around here and the original games that came with it.

Fire up some original Tomb Raider or Whiplash. GLQuake !!

3dfx was teh bestest, until the Geforce.

Funny I came across this thread, I have been wanting that card back for some time now.
Sold all the rest (GTS ect) but only that original Voodoo has any sentimental value for me.

But I most appreciated my Geforce2 GTS, it lasted a LONG time in gaming years. Awesome card.
