Do you still get tan if you wear sunblock?

I want to build up a tan but I hate sun burn(who doesnt). If i wear sunblock will i still get tanned without getting burned?

The sunblock i have now is SPF45. Im also very light skinned, Im Irish and have red hair.

depends on what strength of sun block you get. if you load up on spf 45 you probably won't tan much, but if you go with spf 15 you'll probably tan alright. just don't expose yourself to the sun more than you should and you should be alright.

SPF like the above poster said is sun protection factor. Let me break it down for you like this. An SPF of 60 allows 1/60 of the UV to be absorbed by your skin. So being out in the sun for an hour is like being in the sun for 1 min with out sun block. Start higher and then work your way down. Your skin will build its own tolerance to the sun. Don't forget to reapply the sun block the longer your out.

wear sunblock but get a lotion that has a little bit of sunless tanner in it. that way, you will look tan while staying un-charred.
*you are not a girly-man if you use body lotion and it will not look fake.*

it takes time if you want to do it right... i go to a tanning saloon 3-4 days a week, and I use an SPF-4 deep tanning lotion in the beds.. Im in the bed for 15-18 minutes.. when I first started, I had to do 5-6 minutes..

when i lay out in the sun, its only for 15-25 minutes wiht the same lotion.. I'm tan now, but it took at least a month of this routine to build it up...

just dont fall into the "if I go a little bit longer in the sun, i will get tanner" because then you just get burned... go out until you feel like you might be starting to burn, then go back inside..

ALSO, you have to keep your skin moisturized as well, not just when tanning, but throughout your day..

don't do what lola says you can tell it's fake

i'm irish and i've never had a problem tanning "naturally" without much burn.. I'm outside like 2 hours a day+ and no sunblock
and burn turns into a tan, sorta, no?

Severe burns, no. Light burns, yes, they turn into tans. That doesn't mean you want to get mildly burned everytime you want to get tanned cause that increases your likelyhood of skin cancer by A LOT.

this is why you use light sun lotion, and as sooon as you feellike you might be burning, get out of the sun....

HTF do you feel like you're burning? I never feel it till it's too late, it's not even possible to know when except via time.

cause ive been burned alot... ive begun to get a "sense" for it... and yes, many times, I am too late...

You know what's strange? The way people will slather on sunblock then not even wear sunglasses, or wear cheap ones with no real UV protection.
