Do you stick with a certain project...

i don't know about anyone else, but i used to stay with one project for a long time. ie, months, if not more.
now though, i get a bit bored and switch about every now and again.

And actually pertains to Distributed Computing! :Q

😀

I tend to stay with one project for a long time, unless something changes with the project.

I crunch some projects for a long time - months and years: seti@home, CPDN and MalariaControl. At least five comps crunch these projects - some times more. 😀

Then I switch projects together with TAS - every month. :sun:

And the races - those are fun. I may take all comps off their projects for a week or two - but not more.

I just love Seti@home - the first project I ever crunched and the project which stimulates my sense of the fantastic most. Malaria is - IMHO - one of the most important projects which will give results reasonably soon - more applied science than basic research. CPDN is also important - but represents much more basic science.

I have some favorites that I go back to once in a while. Usually, Sudoku, Cosmology@Home, and 3x+1.

Most of the time I follow TAS to the monthly projects, unless it is one I don't care for like F@H and WCG.

I did SETI a million years ago before I really knew what DC was all about (there was no Boinc or stats or anything as far as I can recall). I even had it on my work computers constantly running in the background.

Now I am with Malaria and I have no plans to change anytime soon.

Used to crunch for seti. Now I try to contribute towards medical research like rosetta, F@H and WCG. But I also follow the TAS'ers around.

Usually I scale down when the weather gets warmer but I'm back full force for the winter.

I love you DC 😱

After Seti Classic stopped, I stayed with CPDN for a while, and Rosetta. But Einstein has always been good to me, so I have stayed with it the longest. I like the project science, but it is also stable and fairly nice on my computers.

I do switch a few comps to various projects fairly often, yet I always have the bulk on Einstein nowadays.

After SETI class stopped, I crunched anything but SETI. I nwo switch my machines with TAS, but I try to stay away from SETI as much as possible. I'm still bitter.

You're shocked... imagine our surprise 😛

I tend to stick with one project.
I've only crunched SETI Classic, ECC2(i think that's what it was called), F@H, DPAD & SoB. I don't mind F@H but DPAD & SoB are just too dial-up friendly.
I still haven't created a BOINC account. Guess i'm waiting for the bugs to be worked out 😛

🙂

And mine hasn't started yet.

I wish I could have gotten something besides BOINC on my new linux server (Xeon 2.4GHz). I tried the apt-get install ia32-libs for getting F@H, but it wouldn't find the files. So I installed the desktop and installed BOINC. I would have loved to do F@H, DPAD or SOB on it....

My introduction to DC was a combination of SETI & RC5. And since I found all the help I needed at Anandtech (along with cool people!) I've stayed with TA ever since. 🙂

My interest in project tends to vary a bit over time, but I also like to set a certain goal like a particular number and crunch to that point before switching to another project. In my current project, RieselSieve, the goal is a 1/2 million, then it's probably idle for the summer months and return when the weather gets colder again. 😉

Yes, yes.. in my much younger and foolisher(?) days. Hey, eBay's good for something after all! 😀

I am going to risk it - none of the DC-mods is online now ...

Here is a  for you TAndy - have a good week end! 😀

Darn, you caught me while I was asleep. 😉
