Do you spend more on CDs because of file sharing?

All of this RIAA talk has got me thinking.

How much have you spent on CDs and DVDs (or how many have you bought) from artists/songs that you have discovered through P2P networks, FTP, IRC, etc?

While I do have a considerable amount of MP3s, I find myself regularly buying what I consider of good quality. I don't listen to radio, nor follow the latest "trends", so the Internet is my connection to new material. I have a CD recorder and tons of blank media, but I always prefer the original. Tomorrow I'll receive a package with five CDs and three music DVDs, making more than half of my CD collection directly related to material that I have discovered through the internet.

I've set up inside my webpage a flash audio player, that, on demand, streams MP3s without hassle, so more people become in contact with different stuff. We (the "Internet generation") have grown accustomed to seek out for information, and not receive it passively. For us, file sharing is a natural way of spreading out new information ... which we'll then choose how to use it.

Am I rare species, or do other people think this way too?

No, I don't buy CD's except for at parties, but then again most of the music I listen to is recorded @ parties or from radio shows. One of the perks of being into Drum & Bass, or any kind of electronic music is that theres plenty of legal ways to get free music AND support artists.

i bought 0 music cds before using file sharing, and i bought 0 music cds after using file sharing. will probably change in the near future though

Nearly all my music purchases were because I downloaded an artists stuff and liked it. Mostly I wanted high quality (CD) versions. I have a sh1t ton of cash invested in audio equipment both in the car and home and don't really like 'noisy' mp3s.

No, but I don't buy cds anyways. If I had extra money to blow, however, file sharing would determine what cds I buy and which I don't.

yes i spend more on cds because of file sharing.

I listen to a lot more underground bands and less mainstream stuff and I'm very picky about my music at that. nice to sing along at shows as well and then just buy the cd at the show.

yep, only difference is now I listen to mp3s instead of the radio.

My purchase of CD's drastically increased with the ability to preview music using the headphones in many music stores. I see file sharing as an extention to that ability. Sure, it's illegal, but to me, it's certainly not immoral with merely the intention to preview before purchasing. Stuff that I like never hits the radio, so I never get a chance to hear it before buying the album unless the band is on mp3.com or something. (I make it a point to support struggling bands.)

Also... I've found a lot of music in file-sharing networks that I've been unable to find in stores. If I can find the albums, my money will be theirs, but until then, I do what I can do to look.

BTW, Can anyone help me find a good source in which to buy Eastern meditation music? I don't want the trendy stuff they're calling Yoga these days; that sucks. I'm looking for mainly ancient music, played from a sincere interpretation of the original writtten works, not something that is simply inspired by them.

I just bought a DTS Classical Audio DVD. Unfrickin believable! If they would put out more albums like this, I would never download another song.

I don't buy CDs not because I can download them. I don't buy CDs because:

1) It sucks, and there is only one or two good songs that I want
2) Overpriced, ($13 for 2 songs is ridiculous)
