Do you sometimes feel your time is wasted on people?

I'm not trying to be misanthropic, but it seems I go through these ephemeral relationships that result in nothing other than headaches. Whether it's a friend who decides he no longer needs friends since he got married, a female friend who uses you as an emotional crutch only to drop them when she feels she can finally stand, or a company that shows no respect for your hard work and loyalty; it all seems a waste in the end.

I'm a person who's intrinsically motivated. I'm motivated by a personal ambition to make people happy and to gain intellectually. Unfortunately for me it seems there are a great many people who appreciate that so long as it doesn't have to be reciprocated or even acknowledged. Anyone else feel this way?

One thing is certain: family will always be there for you.

Have a great weekend all 😀

Yeah like that 20 year old girl in the other thread trying to keep her grandma off the liver transplant list 😉

Good point; however, I think a large benifit of AT is that we all interact in such a socially decoupled manner. A lot of the problems derived from actual relationships with others simply do not manifest themselves in a social medium such as AT. Perhaps this is why many ATOTers consider themselves to be socially inept? Their ineptitude simply doesn't apply as heavily.

i know what you're talking about... i feel the same way sometimes, but i recognize that i'm hypocritical because i do some of those exact things sometimes. that's just human nature... i've found it's easier to just accept it as fact and adapt to it.

Yep, everyone has been on the giving and receiving end, so why sweat it so much. At least thats my take on it. I could always become a hermit I guess.................

Misanthropic, ephemeral, intrinsically, intellectually, reciprocated... ack, my pretensiousness-meter is about to explode!

"Inconceivable!"

"I do not think you know what that word means."

😀

I definitely know about the work thing. I'm one of the youngest people in my company (23 / avg age ~50), and I've been employed here longer than 70% of the employees. Every year at the annual business meeting and christmas party, the CEO brags about how much more profitable we were this year over last year. Yet, when it comes to review time, they just can't afford to be paying me what I percieve to be fair compensation for not only being the Net Admin, but the only IT staff for a medium sized business. (235 PCs, 19 servers, 35 network printer)

Anyway, family is always there to support me. 😀 You have a great weekend, also.

I know my time is wasted on people. I try to minimize this waste by not caring.

If he had not said this first I would have said it, this is exactly what I do.

I gave up trying to please people because it's a bullsh*t way of living, but the lack of emotion people spark with me now has left me with no motivation whatsoever.

I become more numb to existance every day and I'm clueless on how to stop it.

As far as relationships go, I think about 99% of them result in nothing other than headaches.

And no, family won't always be there for you.

The only word that might not be known is ephemeral, but the others are pretty common. To call it pretentious is a bit histrionic 🙂 Sorry to compromise your fragile sensibilities.
