I placed an ad on the Recycler website for my PS2 and GT4 game. I posted my email and number as contact. Here is what I got from this person:

hi,
after so murch serch on what to get for a frind i get incontact
with ur item , i will like to pay thru western union money order,as soon as the payment is made an approval will be sent to you via email to notify that payment has been made and the money will be mailed to your house between 3-5 working days..i will like to ship the item immediately the payment is approved cos the item is going of the states and its to be usedas a gift and also need urgently.if it is ok by you then send me thefull and address where you want the money order to be sent to so i can proceed with the payment arrangements
NB.i will handle the shipping to destination myself with my fedex account.

Here are reasons why I suspect this is a scam:
1. Using the word "item" instead of the actual name of the item I am selling. I made it clear what I was selling in the ad.
2. I've received so many similiar responses for other items I am selling on the same site.
3. Bad grammar and spelling. Could be from a foreign country but I hate dealing with shipping so I prefer local buyers only.
 
um.. write back and say you will pick up the money at a western union location. Once you have the money you will ship.

easy as that.
 
Wat are u tahking about. This person wants too by ur item and I wood sel it to them. Their is not anything fishy about using Western Union.
 
wrong.. SENDING Western union = scam

RECEIVING Western Union = ok.. As long as you have the cash in your hands.. If he insists on western union MONEY ORDER, then dont sell.

Haha, gotta love that grammar and spelling. Western Union sets off some alarms as well. I don't think you really had to ask this question.
 
can we ban the next person that asks if an obvious scam is a scam?

That's all I needed. My suspicions were there when his english was more broken than a celebrity marriage, but mention of western union was the clincher.
 
for item you sell is not a scam to sell to person. He probly a good man whom wants to buy you item. Sel to him and you will have many richess.

totally safe. in fact, offer to sell him your computer, laptop, tv, cell phone, watch, and any other high value item that you possess. Give him some outrageous price and i'm positive he'll still want to buy it from you. don't worry though, everything will be done through western union.

Also, if he offers to over pay for your item by a few thousand, don't worry either, all you do is refund the difference back to him. He might even give you a small % of that extra money just b/c you were nice.

Regarding shipping, he probably has his own fedex account, so go ahead and follow his directions.
