Neither. The glass is 30% larger than it needs to be. You do need sufficient space for splashing around inside the glass when carrying it, so the glass isn't 100% larger than it needs to be.

You are spending far too much time focussing on the varying liquid level instead of the true problem: the constant glass volume.

sometimes i'll see it as half empty, but i don't dwell too long and turn it into half full.

so many people have empty glasses so 1/2 full is pretty damn good.

I see the glass as thrown and shattered against the head of the moron who spilled the contents in my lap...

No, the splashing around space would have been factored into what is considered "full" so it really is nearer to twice as large as it needs to be.

Way back in elementary school we had a substitute who insisted that the pessimist was the one who saw the glass as half full. Her reasoning was that she didn't like to drink milk so, to her, a glass half full was bad and half empty was good. We thought she was dumb.

I see no glass in your post. Please provide a picture for reference as I cannot declare a glass as being half full or half empty without first seeing how much liquid is in the glass.

The glass being half full or empty is a real problem as there is both the surface area of the liquid surface exposed to germs as well as the interior of the glass cylinder exposed to germs. A full glass would present less surface area for bacterial adhesion and also provide a greater mass for maintaining cold temperature than a half glass thereby reducing human pathogenic bacterial growth rates which tend to peak at approximately human body temperature. People maintaining glasses of liquids in a half full/empty state are dumb.

True optimists are usually unhappy. They expect the best, which rarely happens, and they are always let down. True optimists rarely ever consider the worst case scenario and are poorly prepared. Meaning, if the worst happens, it is really, really bad.

Pessimists expect the worst, prepare properly for it, and are always pleasantly surprised when things are better than they thought. And, if the worst did happen, it isn't very bad, because the pessimist was prepared for it. True pessimists tend to be happy.

People tend to confuse optimism with being happy. It isn't whether the glass is half full or half empty, it is what you can do with that glass that matters.

Depends on what is in the glass...

"Hey. You've still got half of your drink. Get to it! It's half full."

"Hey... I've still got half of my medicine left in that cup. It's half empty. Almost there..."
