do you scrape the black rubber stuff off the bottom of your heatsink?

do you scrape that stuff off and put on some artic silver? do you just just use that stuff. just a quick question. got a thermaltak volcano 7 that has black rubber like stuff on the copper base.
 
i would use rubbing alcohol to get it off. you can also sand it if youd like.
sand using wetted sandpaper, starting at about 400 grain, and work up to 1000-1500 grain.
 
Alcohol doesn't remove thermal pads all that well. You are better off using lighter fluid or goof off, and then alcohol for the final wipe. Be sure to remove ALL off the "black rubber-like stuff" on your Volcano 7 before applying AS.
