Do you save the boxes from all of your purchases?

Who here saves all the boxes of all the items you've purchased. My house is a mess because I do this. I have a Creative box here, an iPod Shuffle box here, and a few other things lying around. Do you throw it all out? I'm always worried about what if I sell it and don't have anything to ship it out in? :)

For big items that I might want to transport them in. For example, computer cases and speakers, yes.

I keep boxes for items I plan to sell in the future, otherwise I toss them. I've bought hundreds of things with boxes and maybe in all the years have kept 10 or so, out of which I sold 5 so I probably have 5 or so boxes on hand at a time. I don't like to keep extra garbage, as I don't have a storage facility other than a closet or two, which I need for other things like clothes, etc. Other than that I keep the boxes for 30 days in case I have to return them or exchange it. I don't see any other reason to keep junk around. Most of the time I un-fold the boxes too to save space. Not like I'm trying to show off boxes LOL. Why are you asking?

Only if I know I'll sell it or it's a large item that I think I might sell later.

As for small things, you have no excuse. USPS priority gives you boxes for free.

Are you not breaking the boxes down? Stacking them flat in a storage closet or garage keeps them out of the way.

i toss everything within a few days after i figure out that i'm not going to return it, or it's not going to break on me immediately. once in a while i've needed it again, but not often enough to make it worth keeping around. i hate empty boxes.

Contrary to survey results polling children ranging in ages from 5 to 9, cardboard fortresses are not indestructible. Accordingly, we anticipate an inventory buildup of cardboard boxes among households that include at least 1 child.

I have a Gamecube, and a Wii box.

I used to keep a lot of boxes, but once I moved a few years ago I tossed everything. I'll probably put my Gamecube back in its box for storage though.

If I have room, and if it's something heavy that really can't be packaged any other way, then I try to. Otherwise, I cut out a square around the UPC and serial number on the box, peel them off and keep them (warranty purposes), and recycle the box.

For extra shipping boxes, I visit a local retail store. A Walmart Supercenter after midnight is a good source, especially the housewares department. If you're lucky, you might find some nice double-corrugated boxes.
When I need to ship something, I bust apart the seam on the box, turn it inside out, hot-glue the seam back, and I'm left with a clean, blank box.:)

only for expensive stuff, or stuff that i will need to move & is hard to pack without the box

stuff like av equipment, speakers, computer cases etc. makes it much easier when moving time comes

small stuff like ipods etc gets chucked

I keep all of the boxes for computer parts and other electronic items I buy until the warranty expires, then throw them away if they are not needed. I do disassemble them so they lie flat and store them in a few large boxes so they take up less space. I also save most of the shipping boxes and packaging material(peanuts and bubble wrap) the parts came in too, as it saves me from having to buy them later when I sell things on eBay.

I have my antec overture II box sitting right here. Currently it has my HTPC in it because I just moved which is the only reason I have the box.

I keep boxes for things I think might break and would need returning (my xbox360) or are the best method for transport when moving (my plasma TV)

I'll keep anything for a week or two if there's even a slight chance I might return it (got really burned on a monitor years ago because I didn't do that... monitor broke a week after I bought it off ebay and I had no easy way to return it since I threw out all the packing materials on account of being a poor college freshman who didn't have a car).

for smaller stuff, I'll keep it if there's enough documentation to warrant storing it in the box and for computer stuff, I'll usually use the new box to store whatever old hardware I was replacing, in the case of motherboards, video cards, and the like, but generally speaking, it'll all get thrown out eventually.

I keep them all for a while in case I'd need to return something or whatnot. Otherwise I just save big things for electronics mainly for packing them if moving or selling. MY wife, however, saves every box and every manual for everything she has ever bought. heh heh. You should see the rafters in our garage.

I catch hell for being a pack rat but yes, I save virtually all of my boxes (in attic and loft in garage). But mainly for things like computer hardware, cell phones, audio/video, etc. And every time I decide to sell something, I'm very thankful that I saved the box because it makes the item more appealing to a buyer when you can include the original packaging/manuals. And as some others have mentioned, in the event of a move, it's nice to be able to pack things up in their original boxes for maximum protection.

I used to be much worse about stuff like that than I am now. There was a time where I'd save the packaging of virtually everything I bought. But now I only do it with stuff I know has resale value or would be hard to pack/protect if I were moving.
