yes i learned the hard way. I didnt unmount my ipod from my iBook and I lost all my music files.

Odd, I always yank the cable out of my U2 iPod without unmounting it from iTunes on my XP rig and nothing happens, granted, I never did it WHILE it was syncing, only after it was connecting idly.

I make sure the light isn't blinking. blinking light=data transfer. If the light is not blinking, I yank it out. Never lost a thing.

I go to safely remove hardware. A question for those that just pull it out. Did you change the option that sheik124 pointed out?

Nope, didn't know it existed. What is the default setting?

Speaking of which, i think that my fan on my laptop is warping my thumb drives. I had one fail awhile back and the current one seeps to be a bit warped. interesting.

I turn off my computer completely and unplug the power before I remove anything.

Ever heard of Plug n' Play? 😛 😉

I've ALWAYS yanked my flash drives out. I will wait ~5 seconds after I'm done writing information to the drive, but other than that, it gets pulled out; no safe removal! I have yet to lose data using this method, so until that happens, I'm changing nothing!

I do it the right way unless I'm in a hurry or the laptop is crashing or whatever. Only takes a wecond with Xp for it to tell you it's OK to remove it.

what the hell is the point of using safe remove? i use my flash drive about 25-30 times a day and i never click safely remove. ever.

i need to have my cruzer micro last me a while. dont need to screw the drive over by yanking it out, as i use portable thunderbird and firefox, which randomly write to the drive.
