Do you respond to Craiglist lowballers?

Especially if they've e-mailed you on more than one occasion. If so, do you try to be witty, polite, mean, etc.? I wish Hotmail had an ignore function.

Grrr.

Yes..

ex: I posted an item on Craigslist for $300
got an email saying "i'll give ya $50"
i replied back saying "sorry.. already received higher offer"

no need to be rude, just tell 'em you've gotten better.

This being craigslist we need to know exactly what you mean by low-ballers. :D

Depends on my mood. Sometimes I'm polite and reply that I think I can get more for the item and will wait for more offers. Sometimes I just don't even bother replying.

its just an offer, nothing personal. i've done it before, it was a computer monitor and they were asking a bit much. its perfectly fair, its an offer, take it or just let it go. course the guy was outraged even though i thought my price was fair esp when prices were dropping like a rock on lcds at the time. so the dude didn't take my offer, and the screen probably became unsellable in short order unless he got a sucker buy. many folks on craigslist think their stuff is worth way more than it is.

19" monitor
110 dollars lol

If you thought that's bad, I had a guy lowball me over the phone for a car. When I politely declined, he called back telling me my car ain't worth jack and he's doing me a favor. After declining him again, he called back AGAIN putting my car down and trying to convince me I'm stupid for passing it up. Needless to say I ended up selling my car for very close to my asking price. Some people are just weird like that.

Is $135 the normal price?
No, it was a Cyber Monday special. But my point is that LCD prices are falling rapidly. Give it a few months and that will likely be the normal price. You can do far better with a new LCD than the prices people want for used LCDs.

Pretty much. That guy should feel lucky to get $50 for that used 19"

I don't like to dick around with stupid shit. So when I post something on CL, I set a price where the first person that shows up will buy it. I say so in the ad and I add that the price is set, no offers accepted.
If I got a low ball offer, I'd ignore it.

:awe:

I just bought a NEW 24" LCD with high resolution and great contrast from Dell for ~$135 shipped. Why do people think they'll actually get $110 for a used 19"?

could be a good IPS, but probably not.

that is one of the problems selling on ebay or craigslist, if there is no one shopping for quality then you're going to get lowballed on quality goods.

The other fear I have out of replying is that if the person decides to be a dick because you didn't accept their lowball offer, they may start signing you up for junk mail.

That's why you use a junk mail account for CL.

Its not low ballers that annoy me. Its the people that go back and forth and waffle like mad.

I can't recall ever being lowballed on something. We've had a few people who said "oh, I can't afford that" - otherwise everyone's paid what we were asking. However, our prices aren't inflated - they're the prevailing prices for what we sell.

I do get sick of seeing ads on Craigslist that are 100's of dollars more expensive than the current retail price. "Hi, we purchased this 40" LCD in 2005 brand new for $2000. We'll gladly sell it for $1500." Ditto for computers.
