Do you replace your headlights in pairs?

I just bought a H1ST Sylvana Silverstar for my 1998 Prelude. They were a bit more than I wanted to pay but Sylvana doesn't carry the regular lines for my car and GE doesn't make a model for my car either. They were the only ones I could find for my car locally.

Now I have one whiter light (Silverstar) and one yellowish one. Would you replace the other one to match? Or would you not care?

I think the question should be "does that bother YOU!". 😛

if you stay "oddballed" you will be pegged as a no-style Flake, but you will not callously blind oncoming traffic.

if you go both White you will be Cool in the city, but on highways, you will be cursed as a ConstantHighBeamer, and you will cause rollovers and mayhem wherever you drive.

DIYD, DIYD !!

So ... buy the second White one, wrap it in anti-vibration packing, and store it in your glove compartment. it will be ready for:
1) your next bulb failure
2) that cute person who just happens to need one on a Tuesday afternoon in a neighborhood you never frequent with a lawn mower in the distance and a mysterious, precipitous calm in the air.

Oh. Yes. If you touched the glass bulb with no gloves or oil-free protection, that replacement bulb you just did may burn out fast. I think the new ones are sensitive to surface oil, like the fussy old halogen bulbs were, but don't quote me on that.

You could buy the second one so they matched, and keep the original that isn't a match as a backup in case one blows some night. May keep you from getting a ticket having that spare bulb!

And if the car dies before the bulb needs replaced, eBay!

generally i replace them both because they are the same age and if 1 is burnt out the other wont be far behind.

Yep, it's actually pretty amazing how they last nearly the exact same number of hours...

Autozone carries the Sylvania H1-55W for $6.99 ea. Always use the same bulb on both sides.

OMG DID YOU GET THE GREEN LIGHTS FOR YOUR WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID NOZZLES TOO?

I used to, but realized that it was a monetary waste over the long run. Either that, or I just didn't feel like replacing two at a time when one went out. I keep an extra set of bulbs in the glove compartment, so whenever I see one out, I immedeately replace it. Same goes for my brake lights and turn signals since they use the same bulb.

That's cheap! My local chain (Canadian Tire) has them for $26 Canadian Dollars each, plus tax for $30 total. 🙁

If they were $7 each, I would have no problem replacing both at the same time. When replacing two costs $60, it has me thinking twice a bit.

If regular bulbs were readily available here, I definitely would have purchased them, but selection in Canada is usually quite a bit less than in the US. I must say, it is pretty cool looking compared to the other regular bulb. 😀

Opps, sorry! Didn't know you were in Canada. Have you tried looking at Wal-Mart?

OMG ARE YOU STUPID?

I replaced both my headlights when one lamp died. Put differently, it means that I put two new ones in. So, when one of those 2 new lamps goes, I'll put in the old one I have under the backseat, ending up with 2 used lamps.

Funny you ask that, because I just changed the headlights on my car this afternoon. Only one light was out, but I bought two and replaced both because the package said "always replace both at the same time".

My second original headlight lasted nearly four years after the first one died in my old accord. I did buy two at the time the first one went, and just threw the backup in the back of the car. Four years later, I pulled it out and replaced that second bulb. I got both bulbs at the dealership, and they were only a few bucks each.

While I don't disagree with doing it, I'm sure they're motivation for putting that on there is profit not safety related.
