Do you remember what brought you to this team?
do you remember who?
do you remember the first person to welcome you, do you remember your first question?
do you remember those before you who have left, do you remember those after you who remain?
do you remember the good times we had, do you remember the bad?
do you remeber those who founded the team?

I do. do you?

This thread is a moment of reflection on the Teams history and the changes that this team has gone through, the ages of beginning, the ages of the wars, and the ages of now, to reflect on who we are, who we were, and how we came to be. Please add your remeberances and reflections to this thread. this team isn't all about stats, and #1, we who are still here from long ago, and even from the beginning are a family who can rely on each other to be there, its not all about the compitition, its all about the team. please remember that.

1.) I remember looking at the FS/T forum, and I saw a "Bump for a fellow SETI member", I wasn't sure what that was, so I saw his sig pointed to the page, so I signed up, visited the forum, and been crunching ever since.
2.) Nope.
3.) Nope, but I do remember me asking "So, is this running correctly now?", or something along those lines while I started crunching.
4.) I have no been on the team long, maybe 6 or so months. I don't recall who comes and goes.
5.) I remember having a SETI MTR, our team came in 2nd I believe. That was great fun. Bad was the cheaters, espically when we found a couple in our TeAm.
6.) I havn't been here long enough to meet the founder, though I do know who makes this TeAm a better and much more enjoyable place.

Go TeAm Go!

What makes this team great, is the fact that everyone is so friendly, willing to help each other out, espically in times of need. Fortunately for myself, I have not been in that position, though I have witnessed it, and it overwhelms me that people could be so generous to others, espically just "over the internet" friends. Thats my biggest memory of what makes this TeAm great.

Thank you for posting this thread, I await other replies.
Jonathan

I was brought to the team by the Distributed Computing article that was on the front page in October or November of 2000.

Best racing buds on the team from the past: Electrode, Toft, Tarca, and others.

Biggest inspirations to produce more, more, more: Engineer, The One (EDIT: whether he knows it or not he was a HUGE inspiration to me in the beginning), Networkman, Smokeball, and many more.

I asked so many dumb questions I'm surprised you guys had time to answer them all but you did.

I try not to remember thing by whether they were good or bad but rather as the things that made us stronger because nothing can weaken us.

I wasn't around when the team was founded but if they know it or not the founders did a magnificent thing.

I PM'ed Engineer and asked him about Distributed Computing...I think.
Do you remember the first person to welcome you, do you remember your first question?

I signed up on Anandtech in October 99 , but i did'nt post ( much or at all !!! ) , until i heard about SETI :D
Started running the GUI and then switched to the CLI when asking questions here on DC.
I Actually started a small team with a couple of my friends, but it was not that funny cause the differences were to big :(
Then we all ( 3 ) Joined TeAm Anandtech , where i was impressed by the friendly tone and all the great people here that helped so much.
I just knew that i had to be in there. :D
One of my friends and me then Joined Forces under one account calling it MiniTeAm Toft / Vold - DK and it has been going great eversince.
More have joined during the period and from an daily average of 6-8 we're now in the 50 s :D

Over the almost 2 Years that i've been actively crunching Seti i have made many friends here , and all the Races and stuff going on here
are just second to none :D:D:D

A lot of Races and good Racingbuddies: Baldy18, Electrode, RaySun2Be , Smokeball , Soni and a lot of other Great names
I thank you all ( both named and nameless ( My memory is'nt as good as it used to be) ) for making this place what it is. The friendliest place on the web :):D

Also i would like to Thank OhioDude for his tremendous job posting the " Seti Races and Milestones Thread" :D:D:D
and Orange Kid for running the Queue for all of us to use , and for posting the "weekly average thead" :D:D:D

I'm sure there are more , but again my memory is failing ;)

Do you remember those before you who have left, do you remember those after you who remain?
Has Cautery been heard from lately?

Do you remeber those who founded the team?
/me trawls through his memory but comes up blank. Hehe, I submitted my first rc5 wu sometime within the first 48 hours of the team's existance, but I couldn't tell you those who got the ball rolling. There have been SO many active and influential people on the team over the years. Some of us who were there at the beginning have come and gone and occasionally resurface from time to time. Some of you have never taken a break. To be honest with you, I can't even remember which year it was that the team got its start. Was it '97 or '98? It appears that I've started becoming a little senile since my 30th about two weeks ago ;). Regardless, its comforting to be able to come back every now and then and always know that some old friends will be around to talk to.

Do you remember what brought you to this team?
Well, when I started S@H I joined Seti@Netherlands. I stayed there for a long time.. When there were a few "conflicts" between the team and Cobra, Cobra and I desided to join the TeAm. So it whas Cobra who brought me here because he knew that this was a great place! Thanks Tim....
[edit]
Before I joined I spoke a lot with Smokeball.. He was the first member on AT who I spoke with and we started of on the wrong foot.. Although I can't really remember what it was all about, we did make up after all :) And after that he really helped me with everything I asked him... We just flooded each others PM box with to huge mssgs :D
[/edit]

do you remember who?
What and who ask for the same question for me :)

do you remember the first person to welcome you, do you remember your first question?
I can't remember exactly who welcomed me... Because Cobra and I joined at the same time I do know we didn't go unnoticed :)...
[edit]
Officially it whas Smokeball who welcomed me first, although that was in a PM... But I don't know who did in the forums...[/edit]

do you remember those before you who have left, do you remember those after you who remain?
A few, ofcourse it's impossible to remember them all....

do you remember the good times we had, do you remember the bad?
I do, very well excually.. Unfortunatly I remember the bad more then the good... And I'm probably not the only one thinking of the same "bad" moments we went through....

do you remeber those who founded the team?
No, I've never even seen a post from the one who is the founder..

Greg, I just read a lot of or PM's to dig up some historical moments, but I want to thank you again for all the support and effort you made to make me feel right at home at, what I think is true, Your Seti@home team.... Thanks...

I remember very little about how I got started here. It was almost 2 years ago!

I do know that my first post in the DC forum was me asking why a new cruncher (a P3 800E I think) seemed to be running SETI so slowly. Eventually, someone replied to the thread asking if I had joined TA or not. At the time, I was crunching for another group, but I seemed to be the only one still active in it, so I decided to switch to the TeAm. That's where I've been ever since.

Do you remember what brought you to this team?
It was probably due to a link in a signature or something. I've been looking through my post history here, and I see mechBgon posted in a couple of my threads around the time I joined the Seti Team, middle of Feb 2001.

do you remember who?
mechBgon, more than likely

do you remember the first person to welcome you, do you remember your first question?
My first question in the DC forum was "Seti on an iPAQ (PocketPC)?", and the first person to reply to that was you, narzy, saying "your batterylife would die"!!
This was in June 2001, a whole 3 1/2 months after I joined the TeAm, my first post in DC!

do you remember those before you who have left, do you remember those after you who remain?
There's been a lot of people, friends, come and go in the 1.5 years i've been on the TeAm and active here in the forums, too many to remember and mention, as I don't want to leave anyone out.

do you remember the good times we had, do you remember the bad?
Does anyone remember the Very first MTR, Robor getting 999th in the World. There are many more good things, too many to list!

And of course "Black Monday" (well, my name for it, anyway), 10/22/2001, The Day That Changed TA :( I won't go into that here, but if newbies want to know anything, PM me, don't drag it into the open :)

do you remeber those who founded the team?
I know ViRGE was an early member, and that vapor was founder of the Seti Team, although I have never met him.

That's used an hour of my life, and has bought back some memories!

In searching through all my posts, I have posted in about 3100 threads in my time here, and about 2500 of those threads have been in DC alone, my "home" :)
