Pot isn't a performance enhancing drug. Him failing the test means he's an even better athlete because he was able to perform at the level he did despite the adverse affects of weed.

how does smoking marijuana make you a worse athlete? if anything, it's a hindrance to your performance. for one thing it makes you lazy, for another thing it stresses your heart, and for another smoking anything makes your lungs not work as well.

don't get me wrong, armstrong is insane, but this doesn't prove anything either.

In moderately-related news, the current uber-mountain biker just admitted to using EPO.

Meirhaeghe positive

That's two world champions already this year, (David Millar's the other). :|

I thought that top athletes do not use drugs...
Sports == Healthy Life Style
Sport Star == Sets up an example
etc, etc...
Your post doesn't have any sense...
ANd what about the attitude of this so called "top athlete"?

"I failed a drug test because I was ready to quit football."
?

I am not saying that Armstrong is a "better" athlete than this other dude...
The comparisions like that are stupid...
But, the guy who writes for the Herald should know better. His article is an utter crap, especially right now..
And, do not tell me that smoking pot do not have any influence over your body, because it DOES...
Smoking anything is bad for your lungs, this holds true even more for professional "athlete"

Once again, if you are an athlete you should not be smoking anything period...
It is a matter of being "professional" with your work.
Edit: This is just a bad article, false premise, stupid conclusion, and NOT appriopriate role model...

Professionally conducting yourself has nothing at all to do with being a good athlete. It has everything to do with being a good sportsman but nothing to do with being an athlete.

I contend pot made Williams' achievements all the more impressive. I know I couldn't hit the two hole with a head full of THC!

So you just answered your own question...
Smoking marijuana makes you a worst athlete, because it hindrance to your performance. It makes you lazy, stresses your heart, and it makes your lungs not work as well..

Here, good enough?

I'm not arguing whether or not Williams is a better athlete than anyone else. He is a great athlete, though, and there is no denying that. The fact he smoked weed - a performance diminishing drug - and still achieved fantastic things is quite simply more proof of his amazing football abilities. Sure it's wrong that he smoked and it doesn't set a great example but that does not at all take away from the fact he was a 1000+ yard rusher in all of his NFL seasons.

He is/was a fantastic athlete and pot couldn't stop him. Does that make sense?

Sure, but is speaks volume about your overall character as a person. He is a great natural athlete, but to be successfull, you need to train hard every day, have a healthy lifestyle, and a good mental attitude, which this person obviously lacks...
Do you see what I am getting at?

I understand that. But you're saying Williams wasn't successful? What? The guy had over 1000 yards every season! He's retiring early, yes, but that's his choice. Smoking weed is his choice. That has zero bearing on his success as an athlete because, again, weed is not a performance enhancing drug.

I am drawing a distinction between being a good athlete and being a good sportsman. A guy can be a jackass and an awful sportsman but still be a terrific athlete. I don't understand why you're mixing the two.
