Just purchased Warcraft 3 and decided to register it. Not really sure why. What are the benefits of registering? What's the purpose of it? The Blizzard site said I was registered in a drawing to win free software every month

Do you register your software? Why or why not?

for blizzard, if your cd key ever gets stolen or if you lose your CD case, you can e-mail them to deactivate your old CD key and they'll send you a new CD key

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

I registered Warcraft 3 though, for that cd-key reason stated above.

how come 5 people voted for not registering? if i didn't want to register, i wouldn't buy the legitimate version-i'd probably dl it and get the crack somehow (i guess not for War3 cuz of b.net, but for other programs)

No, I don't want junkmail. That's the only reason. I've never had a problem with getting support for stuff I haven't registered.

Depends on how much I spent on the software. If I spent 50 + I'll register it to see what kind of updates they send. Anything less waste of time.

I get enough spam as it is. I dont need to be in an extra database.

That is so, so true. I usually just hold onto the registration information in the event it's needed. As you can tell, no I don't send my registrations in.

The only thing I've ever gotten out of registering non-shareware is junk mail. I don't do it anymore.
