Do you recycle?

...& to what extent?

I do a lot more now than I used to - it wasn't even an issue growing up, we just burned our garbage (anyone else have a "burn barrel" on the farm as a kid?).

These days the wife is kinda the recycle nazi... but it's not all that bad once you get used to it.

yes i'm bored 😛

I recycle all my plastics and glass/aluminum . I don't have any delusions that I'm saving the planet or anything like that but I drink a ton of bottled water and I started feeling bad for just throwing all those bottles away. Beer/soda bottles I return to the store eventually. Paper I don't recycle. It's kind of a pita since I don't have curbside recyling :|

Yup, and a major problem people have is when they buy things with plastic attached to a peice of cardboard, they don't think to remove the plastic and recycle the peices separately but instead just throw it in the trash. I have two trash bins in my room, one for paper and one for garbage. I'm also trying to get some broken computer equipment recycled as well because I know it's illegal to now throw away computer parts (landfill).

They recently introduced organic/inorganic bins here, so that's cool. I was surprised how much of the garbage is organic...

It's required where I live. We have three bags for sorting garbage. Blue for recyclables, green for compostables, and clear for garbage. Major PITA. They're Nazis about it too.

I used to when I lived in the city in California. It's not as convenient now where I live in Texas so I don't bother.

And I used to have the farm burn barrel too. 😀

I just remembered... I dispose of my old computers, paint cans, etc. properly (go to the designated centers for that trash)-- dunno if that counts as recycling 🙂

Here we just have one big container for anything that you can recycle so its not hard to just seperate stuff from the garbage. If you dont recycle you're a wasteful bastard! 😛

How is it required? What stops anyone from putting it all in garbage? What do they do if you don't?

They won't collect the garbage. It is required that the bags be translucent so the collectors can see the contents. If they're not happy with your bags they'll leave them at the curb with a big orange sticker. Ultimately they will fine repeat offenders.

All newspapers, aluminum cans, glass bottles, cardboard boxes, and #1 and #2 plastic containers.

In our town, we get free curbside recycling pickup, so all it costs us is a couple of minutes per week.
