Why wouldn't I??

They are fast, relatively cheap, pretty reliable and make fantastic space heaters!!

No seriously they are (as Tony would say) grrrrrreeeeaat
The XP 1900+ is a sweet piece of kit... 1.6 GHz of P4 whipping goodness

XP is the best processor. I have a 1700+ and have been able to post at 1.9GHz (havn't tested it yet, but it posted). Also, the XP runs a lot cooler than the 1.4GHz Athlon-C. I have both and the 1.4 runs at about 55deg.cen. and the XP w/same hs/fan runs at about 38deg.cen.

Don't listen to them.

For heating, actually the PIV is the best, with a max power dissipation of 95.7W.

I'd suggest a 19" rack and 16 PIV @ 2000, plus watercooling. Connect the cpu cooler circuit to the house underfloor heating circuit and you should be able to keep a 20 sqm study warm and cozy. If space is an issue, Itanium is better with 130W so you might get away with 12 CPUs. Still very expensive though.

Also don't listen to the many people that will now suggest immersion heaters. Trust me, they suck royally with distributed computing.

No, I highly recommend a 486 DX2.

Your question makes little sense: are you comparing Athlon XP to another brand/type of CPU?

He's asking if the XP is worth getting. Why do you make such sarcastic remarks all the time? Like everytime you post it's some kinda stupid sarcastic remark.

EDIT: The Athlon XP is worth getting.

"About perfomance, stability, heating and overclocking"

Currently running a 1800 that I won at the STL giveaway

Performance- Dang fast- A block of SETI takes just over 4 hrs
Stability- I've yet to have a crash thats not attributable to me
Heating- Mine seems to run at 53-54 dgrees C under full load & clocked- with the stock AMD cooler!
Clocking- Currently at 1721 (actual) Stock- 1.533. Suspect I could get better if I could adjust the Multipliers & voltage on this board
