Do you really want widescreen in a television?

I just recently decided to purchase an HDTV. Now, as a heavy gamer, wouldn't widescreen (16:9) conflict with windows more than standard (4:3)? For example, games not supporting widescreen format?

not all current games support widescreen, ala battlefield 2. the ones that do look gorgeous tho.

most people use a computer monitor for their computer so this isn't an issue. for whatever reason you've decided not to do that. so for the 99% of people that use their tv for movies or hdtv content, yes, widescreen rocks.

just a q, doesnt widescreen stretch the view of the destop?

I dont think it will if you select the proper resolution right?

it won't stretch it per se if your video card supports the tv's native resolution. it just adjusts your desktop to the correct size. like, it isn't stretched, you just have more area width wise than a normal lcd/crt/whatever.

lol, i just had a bunch of people shoot down the idea of a $550 LCD 27" WD HDTV because it only has VGA and no DVI.. now someone please tell me if this 27" WD LCD HDTV (8ms) (great name) will do me right!? ($720 btw)

How important is DVI connector? I think HD15 can support up to 1920 x 1440. HDTV is only 1920 x 1080. What do you gain from DVI?

<-- still using Diamondtron 22" so ...

he wants to use it as a pc monitor. i know with some pc lcds you can tell a difference between the vga cable and the dvi cable, so magnify that to a 27-30" tv. i'm guessing that's why most people are telling him this.

I tried using DVI to my TV. But, I went with the componet connection instead. With DVI, Whenever I would switch the input to DVD or VCR, I'd have to restart the computer to detect the TV again. Componet never had this problem for me and it was easier to get the resolution of the tv set up. Since it's a projection tv, I don't notice the quality differance.

The question was about TELEVISION - not monitor. For TV, yes - widescreen. As a monitor - - depends on what you use it for.

well see.. for 4:3 strict games you just run 1600x1200 on a 1920x1200 LCD and get black bars on the sides. OMG! Never seen that before.

Here man. Computer worthy resolution.

he's buying a tv to use at a pc monitor tho. check his other thread if you need more info. so while he SAID television he also said "Now, as a heavy gamer, wouldn't widescreen (16:9) conflict with windows more than standard (4:3)? For example, games not supporting widescreen format?"
