I believe a person should be able to leave life on their own terms. I also believe this should be when they are not under duress so that hopefully they're not hitting the "kill" switch due to a transient problem. That said, as long as I can still function mentally, I have every intention to keep living. In fact, I plan to live forever or die trying.

By old I mean 80 plus.

It seeems that when most people become old the body starts to rapidly break down. My father had to be taken to the hospital because he has afib and had a very rapid heart beat. He had been healthy for most of his life. He's doing OK now. But, when you look at human evolution we were put on this earth for one thing. To reproduce. To keep the bloodline going into the next generation. I don't think the human body was meant to live past 70, 75 tbh. Its why we become non productive in old age. We aren't desirable to the opposite sex anymore. We get wrinkles. Skin sags. We lose our hair, and get hair in weird places. Alzemiers, Parkinson's disease, cancers, and heart disease creep into our lives. We are done having children. And yea, old rich guys like Al Pacino who just had a child doesn't count. He is an outlier.

Maybe this doctor has the right idea? I get it. Death is a scary thing for most people. But, living way past your prime is not living a good life. Not if you're in constant bad health.

Someone posted last year of a sad youtube video of someone in their 70's just waiting to die.

What's the point of wishing to be alive if you can't even defend yourself with your two hands?
Thats why God invented guns. With lasers, you dont even need to practice your aim at the range.
Waiting for optical auto-aiming guns to be perfected

My maternal grandfather is turning 100 this year and lives on his own, cooks, drives, and has all his marbles. If I can be like that I'll take it.
if i'm alive past 80, i want to still be able to drive.
Or will the company that bought Tesla because it went bankrupt due to Elon dying on Space X's maiden voyage to the moon finally have a self driving car?

Just because you are older doesn't mean you are sexless, get a clue.

I don't worry about getting old (older), but my dad died from Dementia almost two years ago. That scares me.

Learn a new language. Then learn one more. Keep your mind active, always trying to learn new and difficult to understand stuff. It increases the gray matter and keeps the brain healthy.

I'm always learning new stuff. Whenever I hear somebody say "you learn something new every day," I cringe. I learn innumerable new things every day. The idea of only learning one new thing in a day appalls me. Newness should be what you're all about.

Last eye exam I had my ophthalmologist made the comment that mine were the healthiest eyes he'd seen all day. This was about 1/2 way through his day. I said I hoped this would be true if I lived to be over 100. His comment was, "why not 120?"

BTW, he'd done my cataract surgeries.

Just keep your muscle mass up and you should get there easy. I've read that sarcopenia in old age leads to a rapid decline in quality of life.
In fact I'm going to the gym this afternoon (5 mile bike ride both ways) and doing my 1 1/2 hour routine, 3x/week. I was out of the gym during pandemic but back since early February. I'm finding a fresher approach. I do all the same things, mostly, but am working at it harder. So many people in my gym who are amazingly strong, BIG muscle mass! Even some of the women super impressive.

Pacino is an outlier because he is a famous movie personality, legend who is worth over $120 million. He just had a baby with a very beautiful 20 something.

Now, do you really think a 24 year old is going to be attracted to the average (99%) of old men who are getting by on social security and a small pension? Most 20 somethings won't even find a 50 year old attractive, let alone an 80 year old. The chance of that happening is very remote. And yea, old people have sex. I'm not saying that. But, an average 80 year old won't be pulling 20 somethings unless he has a lot of money, and/ or fame.

Yeah. In certain parts of the third world, this happens so often that you would want to bang your head and die. Teen girls getting their cherry popped by their 60+ year old husband. Coz parents are too eager to get rid of the girl. Some people are so lucky, even when they are close to dying. Then there's I. Maybe I'm destined to go out with a bang too :p

Explosive bang of sticky DNA :D

Moses lived to 120 years old according to the bible.
And he only let the Angel of Death take him after he saw a much older man who could hardly walk and do anything. He was like, ok, I don't wanna get into that state. Take me!

I lived in Thailand. I saw 60 plus year olds with young 20 something Thai women all the time. The sad thing is I wasn't sure if that was a money transaction, or if she truly wanted to be with the man.

The women never looked happy tbh.

Well according to the bible Moses had super powers. Most historians and religious scholars (secular) believe Moses to be a fictional character.

The Buddha only lived to 80, but he was healing the sick, and he was able to move quickly thru time and space. :p
