Do you mean a heat spreader?

It helps, but mainly in overclocking like you said... Its starting to become more of a standard than a neccesity..

The TwinMos PC3200's are some of the best OC'ing RAMs on the market and they DO NOT have any heatspreaders on them whatsoever.

so then what do u need heat spreaders for????.....i mean i looked at the price diff and I was like...wholy crap wtf....maybe i need it?
but since im not oc'ing i wont need it then right?
mind you ill be doing heavy gaming and stuff like that...it's just that my budget right now isnt very good and i dont want to have to downgrade my CPU that im planning on getting to make room in my budget for those heat spreaders.....any advice?

If the manufacturer makes those RAM sticks without heatspreaders, you're not overclocking, and your case doesn't double as a pizza oven, then I think it'd be safe to say you should be OK without heatspreaders. ;)

i don't think any modules out there need heatspreaders just yet... other than RDRAM... these people are catering to enthusiasts so it pays off to make your sticks look bling bling... :D
