I know that's what they say at articsilver.com ...just wondered if that's absolutely necessary

Not at all. I think what they are saying is that after 72 hours the bond will be most effective. After a couple days the particles shift around and seat themselves better. The temp may go down 1 or 2 degrees.

Don't worry about it. Just spread it, mount it, and fire it up. Taking care to follow the instructions of course;)

Yep, csaddict is right. No need to wait to run the rig, just that after a few days of heat the silver particles settle and thus do a better job of transfering heat.

yeah, didn't have any ill effect on mine, two minutes after applying i was up and running(and boy did it help!!! 55C down to 30C) i dont' think i could stand being off of my system for 72 hours....
