I saw an article about The world's smartest man and the IQ test he took at
The International High IQ Society

I went to the site to check out the test (Test for Exceptional Intelligence) and got stumped right away

However, I tried a couple others..

The Culture Fair IQ test. I got a 120

and

The Verbal IQ test. Got a 126 (Qualified for membership in the International High IQ Socitey)

But I'm not going to join.. $59 :(

I think I got a 136 a while back, and they tried to get me to join. Bah! I'm not paying money for a peice of paper telling me I'm smart.

I think it's a trick... the people who cheated on the test are the only ones stupid enough to buy the membership.

Kinda scary that people still don't understand a lot of these high IQ sites.
Most internet nerds, the only ones bored enough to take one, are usually given some overinflated high score to make themselves feel so super smart. Then, sure it can become official in some sort of club for the low, low price of three equally payments of $29.99.

Then, others sit back and marvel at how truly smart those folks are.

Obviously they're not smart enough to make their test sites compatible with Mozilla. I did the whole thing and then it wouldn't give me a score. :|

Exactly. Mensa is the closest there is to an "official" high-IQ society and last time I checked you still needed to take a proctored test in the real world (not online) to qualify for admission.

Also, as they explain on their site (www.mensa.org) it's percentile rank that matters not some arbitrary number.

After being in Mensa for a few years, I came to the conclusion that IQ means absolutely zero. A person who has an IQ of 110 and works hard and makes something of himself, and does a good for society is sure as hell "smarter" than someone with a 160 IQ that sits around and eats chips and plays video games.

I think that people who flaunt their IQ do so because that's all they have going for them.

Edit: Clarity.

Yes, I stopped paying membership dues over a decade ago and haven't missed being "in the club." What someone does with their life is definitely more important than whether they can score highly on a test that measures one specific kind of intelligence.

It was fun to tease my older brother about not qualifying though -- he was visiting the family after he'd moved out and I was drinking coffee from my (M) mug, he asked to borrow a pen and I handed him my (M) pen . . . :D

(Yes I was much younger then :) )
