Where on earth did you get that?
You lose value because things improve so fast. Heck, I've lost sales on video cards because I didn't overclock them.

<--- Looks around to make sure no one's gonna laugh. Still running a 1.3 tbird and TI4200 on an AK31 mobo and milking it for all it's worth.

With all the poverty and hunger in the world it's hard for me to justify dropping $750 on a new rig when I can just as easily cuss at the one I have for being too slow. :)

Me? It's perfectly stable.

I pushed my 2100+ "balls to the wall" (2300 MHz) when I first got it, but after a while it started having problems so now it is at 2100 MHz.

"Perfectly stable" doesn't mean your CPU isn't returning erroneous calculations.

Edit: Not you. The OP.

Some people don't care much about Prime95 and the like, as long as the computer is stable for everything they do (myself included). I have my 1700+ (1466MHz) at 2400MHz and have had it at that speed for almost two years now. It works for me. :)

My barton pukes at anything above 2GHz too :(

I'll admit I haven't run Prime95 recently. But I ran it when I was finding out how far I could overclock when I was doing it 3 years ago, and Prime95 ran perfect at 2.0 GHz.

My P4 3.06 overclocks nicely without a voltage bump to 3.45 although lately I've been running stock because my heatsink/fan looks like it ate a cat again. As soon as I get a chance to clean it out I will bring it back up to 3.45.

Here's a pic of the heatsink before when it got all nasty... believe it or not it's even worse now, hehe. Text

Older Athlon 1700+ T-Bred Bs were factory clocked at 1.47ghz, and some of those guys hit 2.4ghz pretty easily.

well if you use your computer regularly and do more than just surf the net such as graphics, video, games, you are naturally going to push it more since games and programs get more advanced but your comp stays the same
now if you upgrade it isn't pushing as much cuz your hardware keeps catching up aswell if at least just by a small % margin
