Do You Prefer Diet Sodas to Regulars?

I was just thinking about this for some reason...

I cracked open my daily diet Coke and wondered if it's odd that I prefer the taste of diet over regular. Am I weird? Regular sodas just taste... too.... sweet/heavy/sticky. I am also the type who doesn't sweeten iced tea.

Diet Coke is terrible. I drink Diet Dr Pepper. It's the only diet soda I can drink. After drinking DDP for a while, I did notice that regular Dr Pepper is sweeter and syrupier.

Yup. After making the switch to diet a few years ago, I can't drink regular any more. It's like you described...sugar laden cough syrup. Just too rich.

regular food products ftw. No need for the low fat, low calorie bullsh1t, unless you are diabetic or something...

I used to not be able to drink diet soda, I thought it tasted like crap. Then I started drinking it regularly, and now I think regular soda is too sweet.

Unless you are drinking that *very* rare Coke that is made with real sugar, there is nothing "regular" about the HFCS laden sludge that most soft drinks are.

If you don't like the taste, don't drink soda. Drink something else. If you don't like the calories, drink water. Much better for you.

Personally I'm not one who thinks you can have this magical substance in food that has no calories with no long-term effects. Weren't there tests of lab rats having cancer thanks to fake sugar back in the 80'? Sucralose, Aspartame, or Splenda, whatever you call it, it isn't worth the risk to me.

And I could just as easily say that the extra mile per day that I have to run to burn off the calories from a can of non-diet pop could lead to me needing a knee replacement 5 years earlier.

[edit] Or that the time I spend outside running that extra mile exposes me to enough vehicle exhaust to give me cancer/cancer earlier.

I started drinking Diet sodas because I didn't want the empty calories (so now I drink diet for the er... cancer sugar), but after a day or two of drinking Diet, I started thinking it tasted better. Regular soda leaves a weird taste in my mouth afterwards because it's so thick.

Being the wussy that i am, i canno drink diet drinks because it seems the Splenda or Nutra-sweet in them makes me react in a negitve way. headache, nausea, etc. plus, anything with splenda makes me break out...so no, i only drink regular soda or water

I always find it funny when someone brings up the cancer debate, by todays standards just about anything will give you cancer. From using the cellphone to unzipping your fly to pee in the morning. ;)

I grew up drinking Diet 7-up because my mom drinks it. I remember the first time I drank a regular 7-up and thought it tasted weird. I still think it tastes weird. Will rarely drink a regular soda.

Seems sort of like an acquired taste. I originally gave up soda to improve my diet, but now, more than five years later, I prefer water, unsweetened tea, or diet soda to regular soda.

Same thing happened with whole milk. I used to drink gallons of it, but now it tastes kind of gross since I've gotten used to low fat milk.

I've always drank regular pop cause my mom didn't like Diet so she bought regular. I can drink Diet but very much prefer regular.

I can't justify drinking an aditional 250+ Calories per meal. I drink diet because it tastes just as good (to me because I am used to it).
I typically drink 3 cans of pop(yes, I am from the North) a day.

Agreed.

I have maybe three or five sodas a week....

I also don't sweeten my tea (iced or hot) and drink my coffee black.

I like bitter :)

There is some scientific data to support the idea that our bodies inherently keep track of calories consumed and we feel full at a healthy level, this does not apply to liquids though, so calories derived from liquids are invisible to our sense of hunger.

Or something like that... :) Somebody look it up, I'm lazy.

Diet soda is worse for you than regular soda because of the artificial sweeteners in it. Splenda isn't too bad, but I know a few people who drank too much splenda soda and had to spend some time on the can.

These days, I drink mostly water. Occasionally some all natural apple cider.

I quit drinking soda for the most part a few years ago and would compare it to quitting smoking. The stuff is terrible for you.
I never drank diet sodas though, because I find the flavor of all artificial sweeteners to be simply disgusting. I find it impossible to believe when people tell me they can't taste the difference, or that they think diet tastes better. Nasty...

I very rarely drink any soda at all these days (I've had problems with kidney stones in the past, and from what I understand, drinking lots of soda can worsen the problem), but when I do, it's always diet. I need to cut calories wherever possible, and I've grown to like the taste of artificial sweeteners in the past few years (particularly Splenda). Haven't had regular soda more than once or twice a year since I was about 16 or so (21 now).
