Do you prefer 2D or 3D fighting games?

Do you prefer the traditional "fought on a 2D plane" game like Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom, old Mortal Kombat, etc where you can only move forward and backward and crouch/jump. Or do you prefer the newer "fought on a 3D plane" games that take side-stepping or "8 way run" into account like Tekken, Soulcalibur, the new Mortal Kombat, or Virtua Fighter?

2D by a mile.

3D fighters tend to have more collision issues with rotating around the Y axis it seems. they always seem glitchy as characters start rotating around you as you try to attack them.

i think soul calibur or DOA is the worst at this.

my fav 3D fighter is definitely the tekken series, granted the series has been stale since part 3. i wish i could get into VF but i just have never really give it a chance since VF2 back in the day.

all other 3D fighters are garbage IMO.

3D. Huge Virtua Fighter fan. Probably my favorite fighting series.

I love 2D fighters as well and SF2 was my favorite til I got hooked on VF2. After VF, 2D fighters like SF and KOF seems somewhat limited. But fighting games are boring if you don't have human competition. SF2 wins by default since VF never caught on in the US like it did in Japan.

2D for sure. Tekken is pretty good for a 3D game, but most of the gameplay is played out in 2D anyway. Street Fighter 4 has brought me back into the fighting genre with a vengence.

My favorites are 3D, though I don't think that's why I prefer them. Tekken 2/3, DOA, Soul Calibur.

Purbeast0 nailed it.. 2D fighters preferred with Tekken as the only 3D fighter I can stomach.

That said, I can't wait for tekken6. There's an arcade about 1.5hr from where I live that claims to have it. I'm tempted to make the drive but then again, not really.

Ha, I'm in the same boots. I drove around looking for an arcade in the city that had it and none did (the only true "arcade" I know of closed about a year ago). To temporarily satisfy my cravings I borrowed a friend's PS2 and bought Tekken 5, it's alot of fun.

3D all the way. VF5, Tekken 5, DOA4, SC4, etc. I never got used to how stilted MK or SF felt.

2d.

Where is Killer Instinct 3 dangit? Where is the good port that was supposed to come to consoles years ago that did'nt cut out all of the goodies?

I also could see many more cross fighter ones like Marvel + DC Vs Capcom + SNK

I prefer 2d fighters by far with one exception. Virtua Fighter is the best 3d fighter by far anyone that says otherwise is wrong. Tekken is horrible.
