Do you play chess? If so, what's your rating or how good are you?

Like the title says. I love chess. I play both chinese and western chess. I'm better at western chess as there are no places to play chinese chess. Well at least not that many ppl know how to play.

I'm pretty good I guess. I am rated around 1400-1500. But i really want to improve. I love destroying some ppl and then teaching them the err of their ways

Oh and I'm trying to get Chessmaster 7000 to work over the net. Just need to figure it out.

I usually play with real people. If I'm in the mood, I can play rather well. If I'm bored, I don't pay enough attention and get whipped. I have played on the net a few times and did well.

You have a rating? Wow, you must rock. I didn't know you could even get a chess rating. I know how to play checkers pretty well. I suck at strategy games like chess and Stratego. Anyone remember Stratego? My younger brother is 2 1/2 years my junior. He's been kicking my @ss at strategy games since 1976. Doesn't that just suck?

Haven't lost to a human competitor since 91. Haven't lost to a computer since 97. But haven't played in 2 years. Noone to play with here...

I love those really fancy boards and pieces too. I just can't justify spending $150 or more on something I won't use. They are awesome to look at though.

on yahoo im around 1500. but that means nothing. i dunno. i havent played in a while. all my friends suck. they dont even konw what F7 is.

I got all the chess sets i need. I've got about 20 sets hanging around. Glass, wood, metal, deco, cartoon, double weighted tournament set, etc. Been thinking about getting the star trek chess set and learning how to play that. with 3 tiers, it'll be interesting. i haven't read anything on how to play that but it looks kinda cool.

Chess ratings are done at tournaments. I haven't been to one in a long time. I'm pretty good I guess. Played since I was around 8. I'm 26 so gives you an idea. There are lots of books out there on chess. If you are interested, I would suggest reading up. I can tell the skill of someone pretty much in the first 4 moves of a game. There are things that you just would never do.

Some basic things to keep in mind when you play is to always develop your pieces (structure is key). Don't have any hanging pieces (those that have no defenders) and always read ahead 4-5 moves. I know some that can read ahead like 10-12 moves just like that without thinking. and it takes time to develop these skills.

And if you have kids, get them started early. It builds the ability to focus in school. Also it teaches them early winning and losing. Not to be a poor sport, etc.

Have you played Chessmaster 7000? I'd like to see you not lose in the tournament section (no take backs, and unlimited time for the computer to think).

Since 97, there was chessmaster 4000 and 5000 I believe. did you ever play on those?

Hehehehe... ask most ppl what F7 is and they think it's for the computer.
