I certainly understand that point Muse, say in 50-100 the trickledown could possibly make a big difference in overall gun availibilty.

However, I think in 50 years or so the US is going to be a very different place, and for the worse. Huge gap in the social classes, more folks in poverty. Great number of "ghetto" black dudes. It's not going to be a good place. I don't want to be without them with that stuff hits. Just what I think will happen :(

What you say is what's been trending over the last few decades. Someone said "there's absolutely no inevitability as long as there is a willingness to contemplate what is happening." I agree that things will have changed a great deal, indeed tremendously in 50 years. I hesitate, however, to extrapolate present trends and let that be my take on the future. I just can't kill that optimistic streak in me - the incurable optimist.

Good advice.

Remington 700 PSS w/the most expensive Leupold my buddy could afford. Not too shabby, considering that I hadn't fired a rifle in almost three years.

the 700 action is the finest available. when i have the time (and the money) i will get a 700 based rifle as well (http://www.laguns.com/detail.aspx?productid=rifle066&category=Rifles). Tac Ops, based here in LA, makes some of the most accurate rifles in the world based on the that action. Pretty expensive though, they start at $3k

my first gun will be a sigarms 229 chambered for the .40 S&W. from my shooting experience, and everything i have read, they make some of the finest handguns in the world.

Oh...I don't know about the finest available. Certainly the finest "mass produced" action available today.

The Dakota 76 and Mauser 98 are also legendary actions and serve as the foundation of some rather illustrious custom rifles fetching upwards of several thousand dollars.

Although the Remington 700 has probably earned it, to this day it has not achieved the eminent recognition of the Winchester Model 70.
