I could see maybe owning Greek or Roman coins from BC just to have a piece of history but I haven't bothered to buy any other ancient artifacts.
ancient indian, scottish, and british coins are also on my list of ones to acquire someday.
Only silver.
Gold/sliver/bullets will be the currency of the future.
incorrect, gold-pressed latinum will be the currency of the future
and persian! i just bought a silver siglos from the time of king darius (~500 BC) for ~100$. persian coins look awesome and they are cheaper because they're not as popular as greek/roman.

I kinda feel the same. I'd consider investing in some gold and/or silver, but if SHTF happens then like you said, I'd think a barter-type economy will be used, at least for awhile.I like the idea of coins, gold and silver, but realistically if the sht hts the fan a can of dog food or a shotgun shell will have more value.

lulz on losers with no bullets.lulz on the loosers wit just the regular gold.
How do you know it's not fake? Chinese can fake anything. Alibaba even has fake Silver Eagles.
Pft.filled with gold ingots and M3s.
it is a possibility, but this one was nowhere near EF condition or better, which is what they usually create fakes for. had a big banker's mark cutting right through the middle of it, and i could see it was solid through that.
it is also a pretty cheap coin even in better conditions. they are much more likely to fake more expensive/well-known coins.
i always compare the coins against images/descriptions of known variations (using a site like wildwinds and coin history/research books) to make sure that it is a type that has been seen before. and i only deal with sellers with a good reputation on vcoins, vauctions, or at local shops. and when looking over the coin i look for any signs of fakes (seams, pitting, etc)
still there is the off chance that i could be fooled. if so, i guess ignorance is blissi am not getting these to resell or anything like that.
if i ever in the market for more expensive coins, i probably will consider getting one graded by PCGS.
This is atot. Most people here probably own vaults in a secret location filled with gold ingots and M3s.
No gold here, other than a very small amount I found as a kid while breaking quartz rock. It may not even be real gold. No clue what I even did with that rock, I think my parents have it holding books up on a shelf. lol
