I have an Epox 8K7A motherboard with 256 mb of ram and would like to pick up a stick of 512 mb PC 2100 DDR-RAM. I purchased one through Crucial and it didnt work for some reason...I got my money back and would like to try out another brand.

Anyone with this motherboard have a personal recommendation??

Thanks in advance...

PS: I've owned this board for almost a year and the bios at setup is dated 7/11/2001...so its pretty old...do you think its worth updating the bios?? I dont have any problems with this board..but if it addes performance and more features it may be worth it.. Is it easy to do?? I've never flashed a bios before and I'm paranoid about it... :)

what kind of ram did you get from crucial?

unbuffered/nonparity? or did you get some that was registered, or ecc?

The ram I bought was:

DDR PC2100 ? CL=2.5 ? Unbuffered ? Non-parity ? 2.5V ? 32Meg x 64

I wasnt sure why it didnt work...I think it COULD be a motherboard issue..maybe my empty ram slot is bad?? Which is why I want to pick up a 512 mb stick of ram... If my empty slot is somehow bad then I could just put in a 512 mb stick..and sell the 256 mb stick that I'm currently using.

i would just go to newegg and get some of the cheap stuff (its around $130 if i remember right for a 512mb stick)

the cheapest stuff will be unbuffered, non parity (which is what you probably want)

I have never had problems with crucial in my 8K7A. I have also never had problems with Mushkin.
