Do you own a Hot Tub? And how often do you use it?

My wife and I are considering buying a hot tub to put of four deck. Only concern is if it's worth it based on hoe often we might use it. We both love soaking in a hot tub whenever we are in a hotel so I have no doubt we'd like using it at home. We were at a friend's house who has a hot tub and he said he and his wife use their almost every day even if it's just for half an hour at a time.

So, if any of you have a hot tub, how often do you use it and are you glad you bought it?

EDIT: Also, has anyone bought a used one or moved into a house that already had one that needed repairs? We were always told that used hot tubs were a money sink, but the friends I mentioned above got theirs because it came with the house. They had to replace about everything that makes it run (motors, fans, pumps, etc) but the shell itself was perfect. I'm not sure what they spent to get it up and running but they said it was far less than buying a new one.

I use my hot tub whenever possible. During winter months we use it all the time and during the summer we have it open so you can jump from the pool to the hot tub back into the pool.

They are well worth it!! They are especially fun when it is snowing and great to use at night!

We bought one in 2001, infact the day the lady was to come over to show us how to balance the water was Sep 11th. i didnt what was going on and she called and said she wont be coming for what is on the news... anyway i digress.

We use ours all the time, about 5 times a week. And since i just paid it off with my tax refund i plan using it more.

If you get one, make sure you spend the money and get a good one. dont buy those cheap poorly made one you seeing hung on the side of Home Depot. That would be 3K wasted.

We spent 8,500 on ours Its a SunDance Optima and its solid as a rock.

Be warned when you go shopping for one, the sales people are just like car salesmen. be prepared to negoiate and bring them down a little and definatly wet test the tubs you are interested in.

Edit** oh dont get the one with the lounger chair/seat. it looks comfy but nobody i know who has that seat likes it.

Edit ** #2. After you get one and learn what it taked to maintain clean water. you will NEVER EVER get in a public hot tub again.

My sister uses her's all the time. Personally I can't stand them. It makes me feel like I am cooking in other people's juices. Saunas are waaay better.

I use my tub sporadically. When I first got it, I used it 4-5 times a week.

After a while, though, the novelty of it wore off and I pretty much only use it now after my workouts. Hot tubs are alot of work to maintain, especially if you use a chlorine or bromine sanitizer as you must check the sanitizer level almost daily. I've been using Baquaspa sanitizer for the past winter and it's a breeze since unlike bromine/chlorine it does not evaporate. Only need to check sanitizer level once a week and seems to only require adding sanitizer ever 2 to 3 weeks--plus it's ph balanced so keeping the water in balance is a snap.

Like others have posted, don't go cheap with your tub. Get a quality tub like a Hotsprings, definitely stay away from Jacuzzi. I've got a Cal spa and it's marginal even though it cost ~$7500 five years ago. I'm looking to upgrade soon........

We got one a few months ago and use it a few times a week. We got ours used and had to fix it up. If you have no talent for component level electronics repair and with taking motors apart (to replace individual pieces), you probably would end up replacing whole motors and "spa packs" (they run $1000 +, they have all the electronics built into one panel.) All told, we have spent about 850 bucks, including the $300 we paid for the tub, $250 for a new lockable cover, $100 for water test kit, thermometer, chemicals, and filter, and the last $200 or so was for a breaker panel, wire, and electronic and plumbing parts. I think our electric bill has gone up around $25/month (winter/spring) with the hot tub being outdoors without any shelter other than a deck on 2 sides to insulate it from the elements.

Anyway, like I said, unless you are very handy, a used hot tub would indeed be a time-wasting money pit. I'm just lucky that my spouse can fix anything.

There's a hot tub on the roof of my apartment.

The only times I've used it have been when I was babysitting my 2-year-old goddaughter... she'd splash around in it and pretend she was swimming.

I should use it more often, especially before I move out on May 4.

I might be mistaken, but don't they say that it's bad to put small children in hot tubs due to the heat and how it immediately affects their body temperature?

My boss raves about her hot tub ALL OF THE TIME! She keeps dropping hints that we should hold a company party at her house in Hermosa Beach and make it a hot tub party!
