Do you often walk against the hand signal if the traffic light is in your favour?

I find the hand signals at intersections often make one wait a lot longer than is necessary. They of course represent the absolute safest time to cross but I notice often the light will change in your favour and the crosswalk signal won't change even after pressing the button. Also if you arrive in the middle of the light this is the case. I very often find myself just crossing anyway so long as the traffic light at the intersection is in my favour (being extra careful to look out for traffic of course). I remember my former boss refused to cross even the smallest of intersections against the hand signals even if there was no traffic.

I don't like crossing at intersections as it isn't as safe as the middle of the block. There's too much traffic coming from different directions, and people don't pay close enough attention.

Yes I've come to the same conclusion as well.

I do it all the time. The whole concept is stupid anyway. Why do you even need to press a button for the hand signals to come up? It should appear automatically.

I've always suspected they weren't even wired in. They're just there to give you something to do while you wait :^D

For the case in which the minimum green timing is less than the walk signal. If it's the middle of the night and the light turns green to let one car go, then another car comes and waits on the cross street, the light can change quicker for the car on the cross street without waiting for the walk signal to time out.

I got rear ended because some jackasses decided to cross the street without pressing the button for the hand signal. I was making a right turn, when at the last second, I observe two dudes dart into the crosswalk without even looking to see if it was clear. I had to slam my brakes to avoid running them over, but the car behind me wasn't able to stop in time and nicked my left rear bumper. I'm not really complaining though. The damage looks pretty minimal, but the estimates I've gotten range from $1600-1900. I plan to pocket the monies.

you shouldn't have to press a button if the light is green. there are tons of intersections where there isnt even a button to press anyway.

sounds like it worked out in your favor..

my bro and I always call those PAYDAYS

but of course it sucks if you have a nice car... unless if you can get it fixed for a lot cheaper than what they reimburse.
