Do you need USB 2.0 cables for USB 2.0 devices?

I was at a local computer store and overheard one of the salesmen saying that old USB 1.1 cables are the exact same as USB 2.0 certified cables? Is this true?

For example, if I hooked up a USB 2.0 device to a USB 2.0 port with a USB 1.1 cable, would I still get the full high speed?

Or does it require using USB 2.0 cables?

Yes, as mention above quality USB Certified (USB1.0/Full Speed) cables work @ High Speed Certified Levels (USB2.0).

There are some cables that are certified as USB 2.0 compliant but I don't think there is much diff....in fact over here one online store was selling USB 1.1 5m cables for £1.20 + vat and USB 2.0 5m cables for £0.99 + vat
