It depends if you dont mind the noise of the stock cooler with the fan manually set at somewhere around 70% or higher. Also depends on case airflow. Wheh I had my card OC'd and unlocked with a stock cooler, the temps went to about 75C under load, which is not too bad, but I put a zalman vf700 on it anyways to keep it cool and quiet. I you can spare themoney, I'd put a better cooler anyways to prolong the life of the card.

An ATI Silencer 5 Rev. 2 is always recommended... Be it for the better cooling, the lower noise, the exhaust function of its cooler... I'd mount it even when not overclocking...

I'm pretty happy with stock cooler so far- it is a little noisy at 75%+ speed but I'm at 570 core 570 mem and not maxed out yet.( Mine wouldn't unlock so the temps may be lower than with 16 pipes running). A zalman would be nice- have one on my 6600GT I may swap over- very happy with this card though as I just hit 6183 in 3D Mark05. Not bad for a $150 (with MIR) card!
