Are you one of those people that needs constant stimulation, like tv, music, talking to people, reading, working, playing a sport, or just constantly thinking about stuff? In other words you generally feel like you don't want to be still, you feel like you need to be engaged in soemthing? Or are you someone who can derive pleasure from, say, relaxing in bed, going for a walk, watching a sunset? -- Basically anything where your mind would be still and not engaged in thoughts or problems.

but no, I don't need constant stimulation, I like sitting in the shower, in bed, on the grass. Anything. I try to enjoy life but I hate how everything revolves around money

Wait, you're saying that your mind is more engaged when you're watching TV than when you're not really doing anything? As soon as I stop doing something, my brain floods itself with things I should do, or ways I could do them.... It's not uncommon for me to fall asleep protoyping java methods or writing SQL queries in my head. I don't do those things when I watch TV.

Well, either way, you're mind is not still, you're engaged in what you're watching, your engaged in your programming. What I was looking to find out if anybody feels sort of "uncomfortable in their own skin." While I don't know if that's true of you, you seem to be saying that your mind runs almost non-stop with thoughts -- analyzing (the events of a tv show, source code), problem-solving, etc.

I cannot tolerate idling and boredom is my greatest fear. Perhaps that's why I absolutely hated getting dragged to church when I was young. BORING!!!

I am always on the Internet at work because I need a constant barrage of information. I usually have headphones on because I like aural stimulation.

I was never diagnosed with ADD but perhaps I have it. I'm very impulsive and shifty, work very fast, have zero patience and am very high strung and antsy. No, I don't partake in recreational drugs. ;)

Yeah, I generally equate being still (in mind) with boring. What is weird is that there are some people that have great peace and satisfaction whom, what our culture's point of view, lead a seemingly boring life (considering they reject the nonstop barrage of information and stimulus we face.) This fulfillment is also much greater than what we could have with any amount of mp3s, websites, cds, videogames, tv shows, movies, etc etc.

Not at all. I'm very laid back and relaxed. If I find something interesting it's not uncommon for me to just sit, or stand, and watch it for an hour or so. I look very closely at things. But I might have to look for a while for something interesting to watch. It's just a different kind of stimulation I guess.

Addiction to *what* ?
That makes no sense, unless you're talking about addiction to meth or something similar.

Personally, I like being constantly engaged mentally whether it be with music or tv or a crossword puzzle.. but certain things like a nice view, sunset, or waterfall can put me in a blank state of mind. It's nice. :D

I loathe lying in bed, but I always love do be doing something, like watching TV, or playing a game, or neffing here... however, I do include watching the sunset, or taking a walk as 'something'. Whats the point of laying in bed, and staring at the ceiling? bleh.

I'm a thinker. I wish I could be happy doing more or less nothing, but I always second guess all of my actions... sometimes it helps, and sometimes it makes things a whole lot worse:frown: sometimes I wish I could be happy just watching tv...

My mind usualy has to constantly be engaged into something. I don't mean to sound like I am smart or anything because I'm not that smart, but I do have an illness that makes my mind constantly work. If I have free time to do what I want then I can be happy. If I have time that I can get something done I am happy. However if I have time before I can get something done and have to wait before I can do it then I am not happy. Take today for instance. I had 4 hours to wait before my second class. I commute to school, so i didn't want to drive all the way home and all the way back. By the time class started I felt like crap because I had been waiting so long for it. Now if I am at home and have free time on my hands then I can relaxe in bed or sleep. But generally speaking I need my mind engaged in something that pertains to me or my family. I worry a lot too, so thinking about something constructive helps put my mind at ease.

Sometimes I just feel good and enjoy the moment, but I guess I have been under a lot of stress lately.
