Do you need both a DVD-ROM and a DVD burner?

I'll need a DVD-ROM for my new computer but I was thinking that since I'm going to buy a DVD burner later, I might as well use an old CD-ROM and save up enough cash to get a really good DVD burner and also use it as a DVD-ROM and CD-ROM. Are there any reasons why you should have separate devices (i.e. both DVD-ROM and DVD burner).

None that I can think of. I have the pioneer dvr-104 and it runs all DVD's fine.

I love my dvrA05..but at the moment..testing a Dell/Hitachi/LG GCC-4480B ...the rpc1.org firmware lit a fire under my A05 tho..pulled a 11x DVD rip with it..:Q 😀

I probably would if i used the dvd-rom a lot. Wouldn't want to wear down the dvd burner doing normal task... at least at the current price of dvd burners.

For just occasional use, the dvd burner would be fine, but if your main dvd player is your computer, then you might want to get a dvd-rom since they're only like $35 now and a burner is in the hundreds of dollars.

The DVD Burner will suffice your regular need unless you are into ripping DVD in which case I would suggest a separate DVDROM.

wait, so you have some firmware that does that? does it work with my 104?

Thanks for the advice! I'll think I'll pick upp a decent DVD-ROM to be on the safe side. They're dirt cheap anyways. 🙂

Oddish, pick up a Toshiba brand DVD-Rom when you find a good price for one, they're highly recommended 🙂
