Do you need a modchip to play backed up Gamecube games?

Gamecubes is one system I know nothing about...just wondering of you need a modchip to play backed up games or is it even possible since they use special discs?

to answer you question it can be done but not 100%. Theres a way you hook the game cube up to you computer via the ethernet adapter. You then put you burned copy of the disc in your dvd rom and stream the burn to the gamecube. Problem is that the link cable doesnt send enough info at a time cause its too slow and games dont run right

The only way to play hacked games is through the PSO hack, which sucks, so no.

There's a mod chip in the works, though that's probably just going to remain a rumor.

no you dont need a modchip.

you need PSO (Phantasy Star Online), the broadband adapter, an image of an iso on your PC, and a loader on your PC.

you hook your PC to your Gamecube via a network cable, and load up phantasy star online. i haven't done this so i don't know the details, just the general idea. you then go to some type of online option in PSO, and then you load the game in the loader on your PC. somehow it loads up on your gamecube. however, since the game is being streamed to your GC, it doesnt play at %100 speed.

from what i have heard, there aren't any games that play %100 perfect. whether its sound, or the game lagging, they don't play flawless at all. again, i haven't done this so I can't tell you exactly how great it works. but thats the general idea.

because i read that the GC discs are not regular cds so i thought it would be like Dreamcast where the GDroms wouldnt work in a cdrom but you burn the images of games to a cd and play them perfectly

It's impossible to play games, it's locked in 10mbps mode and cannot transfer the data fast enough, there is no good way to do it, no matter what anyone tells you.

the games actual load and play dude, they just play very buggy and jump and laggy ... from what i have heard. if you consider that impossible to play games, then yes, its impossible to play them.

and yes, i know that some games don't even boot with it at all.

Which was just a reshash of what I said earlier, albiet completely wrong as you said you've never done it.

I consider gameplay moving faster than a slug to be a prerequisite for plausability.

To a degree, yes. But, their anti-piracy methods have also kept lots of good software development away from the Gamecube. They make it very costly for developers to produce games on their systems.

I dislike Nintendo because their past two systems have been VERY poorly supported. Sure, there are some fantastic games, but they are so few and far between. They need more software, and I'm not talking about more Mario titles. I'm sick of playing some big round cartoon Mario character in every game.

Yes, there is an emulator, but it runs even worse than the PSO/BBA hack.

In case you were wondering, the two main reasons you can't copy a GC game are:

1. The disc is a minidisc. It's physically smaller than a CD/DVD.

2. The data is written backwards on the disc. I have no idea what this means technically.

Find a good sale and the games are pretty cheap anyway. Wait a few months and even the new releases come down in price.
