You can always use a straightened paperclip to stick in the emergency eject hole. Just push it in and the tray will come out, no need to power the drive.

course no mobo i know of will power up w/o a cpu in it..... That leaves you having to hardwire power yourself. simpler to just straighten the paper-clip.

Yes it will eject correctly,having no cpu will just make your system not boot.

I have ejected a cdrom where no cpu was present/the cpu was dead. Alls it needs is power, If you listen your HD will spin up and so will all other devices hooked to the mother board. (so long as the MB is not fried)

Yeah, a 4 pin molex connector. However, its not directly from the PSU to the DVD rom. There are no WHITE 4 pin connectors (no holes) on the psu. Instead, i have to link the blue 4 pin (no holes) to a white one (with pins) coming from the case. From there, the one with pins is attatched to a white one with no pins, and i attatch that to the DVD rom.

How come there is a 40 pin connector between the other 40 pins on the ribbon IDE cable? Do i use this? i set my dvd rom to master and put it on the primary IDE slot.

Your DVD-ROM drive has its own firmware that controls primary functions like eject. All you have to do is supply power to the drive and hit the eject button, no need for IDE cables.
I know a friend of mine had problems ejecting his drive so I figured the tray might have been stuck or a gear got misaligned. I manually ejected the tray and then hit the eject button and the tray slid back in. It works normally with the eject button now.

It's weird that your power supply has no white 4 pin connectors. I've never seen one with blue 4 pin connectors.

all you need is a psu, just plug it in to the molex connector, and boot it (you can try manually shorting pin 14 with ground)
