Not sure, but I think using a USB 1.0 cable would be fine. However, the transfer speed would be the slower 1.0/1.1 speeds. :(

Marketing claims yet another victim.....

There is no such thing as USB 2.0 cables. USB 2.0 does not require a cable re-design. The only thing that has changed between USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 is some protocol changes to allow for faster data transfer.

If you where to take a regular USB 1.1 cable and one of these so called USB 2.0 cables and cut into them you'll find they are exactlly the same!

By simply marking "USB 2.0" on the box they can charge customers a premium for the cable. And most uninformed customers will pay that premium.

2: Aren't the requirements for cables different at the new higher speed or will Original USB cables work with Hi-Speed USB?
A: Fully compliant Original USB cables will work fine at Hi-Speed USB speeds. USB cables are not all fully Original USB compliant and it is important to evaluate cables that you intend to include in your products. The USB-IF has started a program for accurately testing cables to make it easier to pick a good quality USB cable that will work correctly for both Original USB now and Hi-Speed USB in the future. You should look to the Integraters List on USB-IF Members-only section of the USB-IF web site (you will need to input your USB-IF username and password to access it) to identify products that have passed that testing program in order to minimize your risk of customer problems caused by poor cable quality.

A fully complient usb 1.1 cable will give you usb 2.0 speeds when used with a usb 2.0 device and card. The USB-IF does not say anything about it working with a 1.0 cable at full speed. Like kindofcomputer said, the problem is finding a cable that is fully complient to even the 1.1 standard.

Now to realistically answer your question, It does not really matter since you are going to be using it on a printer where you will not be likely to exceed the usb 1.1 bandwith of 12mbps. The whole usb 2.0 is just a selling point that looks good but translates into not proformance gain. Just like the 8x agp version if th Ti4200 cards that, It looks faster, but makes no difference.

It makes a bit of difference transferring 10GB of data to a portable HDD.

comparing usb 2.0 vs 1.1 to agp 8x vs 4x is not right.
usb 1.1 to 2.0 is really a huge improvement, 12Mbits to 480Mbit/s, 40x improvement.
while agp 4x to 8x is just a 2x improvement.
