Do you, my fellow twentysomethings, start to laugh when someone from an older generation rags on us for being idiots?

You need to keep in mind that the world wasn't hunky dory when the reigns were handed over to us either. There was a huge revolution on several fronts that changed forever the traditional roles most of us were raised to believe we'd live out. I became an adult in a time of great social discontent and unrest.. we were like strangers in a strange land, trying to chart a new course with tools that just didn't work anymore.
I was directing this message to the older generation, Jean. What's a sexy young thing like you doing responding? ;)

lol,Mr Smooth :)

Seriously, I feel badly for young people today and even worse for the up and coming 12-13 olds, á generation of kids that has no idea what it's like to go outside and ride their bikes or just go out for a day to the park or with friends, everything now is the "playdate"

Every elder generation thinks the younger generation is going to hell in a hand basket. Every younger generation thinks they have all the answers.

It's been that way since man could write.

Welcome to life.

The younger generations have the answers.

They do not have the fortitude or desire to implement them though. It would be detrimental to their status (which for the most part was inherited from the older generations)

Im 41 so in the middle looking at both directions.
I don't like old folks sense of we are 'owed' for building the nation and vairous other claims. I salute those who died on beaches but face it most of them lived worked for a wage and raised kids just like every generation before.
All the while doing the best they could with the information they had. I don't begrudge poor long term planning and consumerism, we have a short existance and humans are, well, basically selfish. It comes naturallly all that I do and feel is important to me and me only really.

I feel sorry for then new generation as they are raised in a such a time of opulence and wealth that if the major correction comes with peak oil, or pandemics, whatever, they haven't had their feet to the fire so to speak and a rude awakening is coming. .
I have kids so in that regard I'm trying to do better. . . .

My thoughts exactly.... There are hudreds of patents in the US Patent office, most of which are now expired and public domain, that can provide 100+ mpg. I found patents myself dated in the 1920s that were able to make use of atmospheric static electricity for home use.

Americans specifically have relied on big, inefficient motors.

Nice comeback. I'm convinced.

There is no comeback for that. He thinks I'm crazy, so anything I say will automatically be null and void from a lack of credibility. What's the use of anything more intelligent than that?

Older generations - specifically, you baby boomers - STFU. Really, just STFU. :p

Considering the utter and complete spectacle you've made of the world, you have absolutely no room to rag on us twentysomethings. It'll be a miracle if we can keep the world from being blown to pieces with the thousands of pieces of weaponry you so graciously decided to scatter around the place. :p

A scary thought......you working at a retirement home for elders.

Sounds like it.:(

The way I see it, each generation has been progressively worse than the last. As technology advances, so does our ability to mess things up in bigger and bigger ways. Technology is advancing faster than our understanding of it (atomic energy/weapons were developed long before we understood the problems they came with), and that's a big problem. People always want the biggest and newest and best, leads to more waste, more demand, and so on and so on.

I'm only 25, but I already find myself identifying more with the previous generation (generation X) than with some of my "peers" and/or people younger than me. Obviously not everybody fits into the same mold, I work with a few people 5 years or so younger than I am who are very mature and great people.

But for the most part, I keep finding that younger people are incredibly stupid. Last night I must've seen 50+ college aged girls in costumes, and every single one was the same: a short skirt, skimpy shirt, and lots of glitter. Apparantly "slut" is a valid Halloween costume now. It's also apparantly acceptable to yell random obscenities at 3am on public streets, throw glass bottles into intersections for no reason, and run across streets through traffic (which is also funny somehow). I don't see people in their 30s doing that, if they were they'd be considered complete and utter assholes, and would be spending most of their time alone. Young people do it, and suddenly it's wicked cool.

So yeah, hate on "old" people for all the crap they've done, but at the same time realize that a lot of the people trying to fix the world's problems are over the age of 40. I'm sure 40 years from now young people will be blaming all of us for whatever problems there are then.

I got news for you ... he's not the only one who thinks you're crazy. 100mpg cars based on secret carburetor technology (I'm sorry - "fuel vaporizor technology") repressed by the evil oil companies is some of the oldest tinfoil hat material in the book. I'm sorry about the $24.95 + shipping you lost on that CD (.No installation needed, easy to use, and loaded with way more vapor system information than anyone could fathom in a lifetime!!!) Consider it a lesson learned.

our generation has not had its chance to make big mistakes.

History has suggested that each successive generation gets slightly worse in terms of morals and what not. One can only guess what is in store for our generation and what we will cause. It would be ignorant to say our generation will be much greater than the baby boomers, when we haven't even had our chance to shine yet.

I start to laugh when I realize that regardless of whether the current "world" issues are being handed to you or not, that by the looks of ya there isn't a chance in hell you will make them better :)

Plus he fails to see that older people these days are taking much better care of themselves and very few ever end up in an old people's home. Add to that the fact that the older generations have amassed more wealth than a lot of the young people could ever hope for with their work ethic. Money is power. The older generation is simply becoming a more powerful force to reckon with. People don't lay down at 65 and die anymore because they are retired. I know plenty of people who are retired and who have started small businesses and are making more money than your average 30 something without adding in their retirement and pensions.

Because your generation is so freaking stupid, lazy and spoiled that you're going to make all the previous generations' errors look like child's play compared to the havoc you're going to wreak.

Hopefully, you're the exception of your generation, not the rule.
