Do you make your own Cat5 cable? Where do you buy yours in bulk?

I bet there are very few people who actually make their own cables. Cut them to size and fit connectors? Sure. 😛

Compgeeks often runs specials on bulk solid cat5e. Not the best stuff to use for making patch cables but if you're installing in-wall, it's acceptable.

1000' for around $50 shipped.

there's a cost factor involved with plenum and non-plenum.

as far as a good crimper, i had a good one where i used to work. i couldn't find it and ended up getting something a little more versatile (it had a shredder built-in) but it's not really the best. however, it's not too bad either. radio shack sells it.

Wiring the keystone jacks is easy, but the plastic connectors are a huge pain. I recall reading that some facilities require that plugs be wired at the factory (plastic end on the cable).

i doubt anyone here makes their own

although i'm sure plenty buy bulk, cut and crimp themselves

i got my cable at compugeeks a couple years ago (1000ft of cat6 for 35 bucks)
