do you make any money on youtube?

i was thinking about uploading some videos and seeing if i can make some money from ads. has anyone tried this and had any luck making decent change?

I haven't tried because I don't have anything catchy nor the personality. I know that you can make money though but most of your money doesn't come from YouTube. It comes from other means. For example, gaming companies will pay pewdiepie to play their games since he has 28 million subscribers. Pewdiepie makes a game look fun, their sales go up. He makes 4 mill a year just playing games.

It's worth trying. It's not something one could expect to just happen though. With time and compelling/interesting/entertaining vids one could do it.

Pewdiepie is an example of someone who makes a lot of money producing You Tube videos. But, he's in the minority. Have you been to TouTube lately? It's a very competitive market filled with Let's Play and prank videos. It seems the people who are very popular are also good looking, young and are fun to watch. The majority of You Tube fans are in the15-25 age bracket.

If I was going to go into You Tube I would try to produce content that hasn't been done. Let's play videos are a dime a dozen now. Pewds timing was perfect when he first started his Let's Play videos a few years ago.

Finally, I read an article a few months ago on how the format at You Tube has dramatically changed over the years. The people who were on You Tube in the beginning were left behind and forgotten. I felt sad for them. They gave You Tube everything but at the end You Tube abandoned them.

Good luck.

Hmmm, would you happen to have a link to that article?

I definitely agree with Korea. It's not easy and very competitive. Do you have a hook, something new and entertaining? I read this morning that you can also make money on Instagram. Instagram doesn't pay you, it works the same way pewdiepie makes most of his money.

well i can play piano, maybe there is money to be made off of that. probably depends on the type of song though, i bet they wouldn't let me make money off of any newer songs.

It's the personalities that seem to make it big (i.e. comedians). You have to be hot, funny, or likeable to really get traffic and keep it coming back.

Or you can be lucky and have something go viral. That doesn't have much staying power though.

I've got a bunch of videos on there and make pocket change. It's really a supplement to my site, which makes beer money. Hard and competitive and copyright is a nightmare.

i've got it!!!

id sub to it.

maybe someone could do "anandtech p&n this week"
