Do you lose quality going hdmi to dvi?

Let's say u wanna plug in an xbox/ps3 using it's hdmi out and the monitor u have only has dvi. So if u get an hdmi to dvi convertor..will there be loss in quality as opposed to plugging the console into a dedicated hdmi?

No. DVI is the same as HDMI without the audio. You will not lose video signal.

What you might have to look out for though is receivers/switches that have limited repeater bandwidth. For instance, some HDMI switches and receivers only spec 1080p/60 or 1600x1200/UXGA, which are both less than 1920x1200. Even though single-link DVI/HDMI tech specs are limited to UXGA, it can handle 1920x1200 for the wire itself, but I'm not so sure about receivers/switches. In any case, I'm looking into it more as its something I might run into with an upconverting 1080p/60 receiver and the various Monoprice HDMI switches.
