I live alone, and cooking just for myself sucks... doing all the chores sucks... paying all the rent myself sucks. However, the benefits are no one bothers me and I don't have to deal with roommate drama. What's your living situation?

Yeah, all the chores and such suck, but, at least here, I don't have company, well, pretty much ever, so I'm the only one who's concerned if certain things don't get done all the time. I've had roommates enough, and I was willing to put up with extra expense and hassle (driving to class instead of being on campus, in a place where it snows almost every damn day) to get the hell away from damn disrespectful college kids. Parties, loud noise, loud roommates, dirty roommates, etc etc. I'd had enough.

Been living alone since I got divorced like 25 years ago. It was hell at first. I think I was addicted to having someone around all the time. Eventually I learned to like solitude and found I could do the things that needed to be done better on my own. Last year my best friend was going through a breakup and I told him he could live in my spare room until he figured out what to do. Thankfully he got his own place after 3 months - the extra cash was nice in the beginning but eventually I decided it wasn't worth it.

Cooking for myself is fine because I always cooked for myself anyway. My diet always tended to be a bit different than most people's anyway (see sig ;))

Chores are more of a hassle, but then again I only have my own standards to answer to, not anyone else's. If I'm not having anyone over, then I might let the cleaning slide a few days longer than I would otherwise.

Sure I would save money by having a roommate, but rent here is fairly cheap so I don't really mind.

OMG its so much better. pay more on rent, pay more on bills, but so worth it -- dont have to share fridge. dont put up with mess... or dont feel pressured/guilty for leaving mess. and i can walk around nekkid all day
